The purple-whistled plover is about 32 cm long and has dark blue-purple plumage, dotted with purple sparkle spots. They often jump between rocks or rocks along streams or fly up and down, sometimes into human activity areas.

Purple howling birds are good at singing, especially during the breeding period, the male birds use their strength to show what is a "bird voice", crisp and high-pitched, changeable and full of rhyme, extremely beautiful. Of course, when there is danger or warning, it becomes a harsh, shrill high pitch.

Despite its small size, the Purple Howling Is a solid meat lover. They mainly feed on insects and insect larvae, and eat land pests such as golden turtle shells, golden flower beetles, elephant beetles, walking insects, field turtles, etc., and sometimes prey on small snakes, frogs, small mice, etc., and occasionally eat wild fruits and seeds.

If they are found to be in no hurry to swallow food but are in their mouths, it is likely to be for the purpose of brooding.

As a "parent", Purple Howling is very dedicated. They are fed very frequently, and some scholars have observed that almost every 5-10 minutes a parent bird will return to the nest to feed. Due to their alert nature, the parent birds always observe on the branches of the trees more than 3 meters from the nest, and only after determining the safety of the surroundings will they fly back to the nest to feed the chicks. Once the feeding is over, it leaves quickly, because if it does not leave, the chicks that have not eaten food will make a cry for food, which is very easy to expose the nest site.

Purple howlings also regularly clean the fecal sacs of their chicks, and if there is a water flow, they will throw the sacs into the water to let the water wash away, so as not to expose the smell of bird droppings to the nest site.

It can be said that in order to improve the survival rate of the chicks, the parent birds spared no effort and tried everything.
