In 1954, the villagers of Tanshi Village, Minhou Sugarcane Town, Fuzhou, found a large number of white clam shells when repairing the embankment to take soil, which is the famous late Neolithic cultural site - The Site of Tanshi Mountain, because of its discovery, the history of Fujian civilization has greatly advanced from the original 3000 years to ancient times.

Azushiyama Ruins

Fuzhou Tanshishan Site Museum Docent Huang Longlong: After the founding of New China, the Tanshishan site was found in Fujian Province to carry out the earliest research, the most abundant accumulated information, and the only prehistoric human cultural site that has undergone many archaeological excavations, with rich cultural connotations and distinct regional marine cultural characteristics, and is also one of the earliest and most representative late Neolithic archaeological cultures in the southeast coastal areas of China, together with the Xi'an Banpo culture, The Zhejiang Hemudu culture, Liangzhu culture and so on have also been recorded in the annals of history. In June 2001, the site of Azushi Mountain was announced by the State Council as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. At present, the site of Azushi Mountain is also one of the first batch of provincial-level archaeological site parks in Fujian Province.

Ten archaeological excavations have been carried out at the site so far. Among them, in the eighth archaeological excavation in 1996, a pottery tower-style pot from about four or five thousand years ago was found from Tomb No. 125. This clay pot has a peculiar shape, with a height of 28.6 cm, the upper part is a conical handle, and the lower half is a pot shape, how to describe it? A bit like a charcoal-burning copper hot pot. Of course, the middle part of it is sealed and cannot hold food. Because it looks a bit like a tower, it is named a tower pot.

A unique piece of the art

The taota-style pot is still the first time in domestic archaeology, so until now, there are still many opinions on its specific use, and it is difficult to determine.

Huang Longlong, a docent of the Fuzhou Tanshishan Site Museum, told reporters that there are mainly several speculations: Regarding the use of the pottery tower pot, there are currently three kinds of mainstream views in the academic community, first of all, when it was excavated, it was placed on the head of the owner of tomb No. 125, and this tomb is also the most abundant one found with burial products, suggesting the special identity of the tomb owner before his death. Archaeologists believe that the tomb owner is most likely a wizard, and the tower pot is a magic weapon. Some scholars believe that it is an oil lamp, which is linked to its own religious primitive meaning, and some people began to call it "Oriental God Lamp" and "China's First Lamp". There are also some scholars who believe that it is a model of a primitive and distinctive house, placed on the head of the tomb owner, so that he can continue to live in the underworld, which is the three more mainstream views in the current academic community.

Whether this pottery is a polished spiritual lamp, or an oil lamp that illuminates brightly, whether it is a daily bottle, or the residence of the soul, is still inconclusive, but this does not affect its important value in the slightest, because in the current archaeological discoveries in our country, it is a unique orphan product!
