Economic Daily-China Economic Net Beijing, 5 Aug (Reporter Li Wanxiang) On 5 August, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, answered a reporter's question. A reporter asked that the US Department of Defense Security Cooperation announced on August 4 that it had approved a plan to sell about $750 million worth of weapons to Taiwan. Any comments on this?

Ma Xiaoguang replied: We firmly oppose US arms sales to the Taiwan region. We urge the US side to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three Sino-US joint communiques, especially the "August 17" communique, stop all arms sales to Taiwan, refrain from sending wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, refrain from endangering peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and refrain from harming the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the strait. The DPP authorities' attempt to "rely on the United States for independence" and "resist reunification by force" will only push the Taiwan people into disaster.
