Although they caused some economic losses to the people along the way, surprisingly, they were quite popular everywhere they went, and instead of hurting them, people thought they were very cute and provided them with the necessary food and protection.
Nowadays, the Broken Nose Family is divided into two roads, one is a large army of 14 elephants, and the other is a monolithic elephant composed of a male elephant, and the current large army of the Broken Nose Family is slowly migrating southward, and the solo elephant is anesthetized and transported back to Xishuangbanna.
So the question is, it was clearly stated that the elephant herd was not suitable for anesthesia transport, but why should it anesthetize the solo elephant and transport it to Xishuangbanna?
The head is a male elephant, aged about 10 years old, and is a sub-adult individual. In fact, during adolescence, male elephants leave their populations from time to time and live alone for a period of time. When they reach adulthood, male elephants will leave their original populations, join other groups or live alone, so it is normal for male elephants to leave the group.
In general, male elephants return to their own populations after they are out of the group. In the beginning, experts thought that the male elephant might return to its own population after living away from home for a while. So after it left the population, it was closely monitored and no other action was taken.
Today, the elephant has been out of herd for 31 days (as of July 6), getting farther and farther away from the population, with a straight-line distance of more than 69.5 kilometers, and it is unlikely that it will return to the group on its own.
On the other hand, the place where the male elephant lives alone is not suitable for the survival of elephants, whether it is climate or vegetation, it is not suitable for the long-term survival of elephants. Moreover, there are no other elephants in the area, where it cannot find a mate and can only die alone.
Experts also believe that even if male elephants are returned to the population, there is still a risk that the male elephants living alone will still be out of the group and can only be returned to their original habitat.
More importantly, it is unlikely that the solitary male elephants will migrate back to their original habitats on their own, and during the northern drift, long-term artificial feeding is required, and the artificial feeding of vegetables and fruits has a high sugar content, which is not conducive to the health of the elephants.
After assessing the multiple factors, the specialist decided to transfer the monolithic image by anesthesia. At present, the isolated elephants have been safely transferred back to their original habitats, and all physiological indicators after the return are normal.
Since anesthesia transfer of elephants is feasible, why not implement an anesthetic transfer strategies for the entire elephant population?
This is actually because elephants are social animals, and anesthetizing an elephant in front of other elephants will make the elephant population think that humans are "maliciously provoking" and even hate humans because of it. Elephants have an amazing memory, they can remember what happened when they were young, and once they have a grudge against humans, they may become unstable in the future, threatening the survival of the humans around them.
More importantly, the time to anesthetize the elephant should not be too long, otherwise it may lead to the death of the elephant. And one-time anesthesia for so many elephants, may lead to accidents, such as: the anesthesia dose is too small, will threaten human safety, the anesthesia dose is too large, will threaten the life of the elephant. It is more likely that the first elephant is awake after the last elephant is anesthetized.
In fact, since the Broken Nose family entered the place where human activities are intensive, some experts have proposed that the fallen elephants will be anesthetized one by one and transported back to their habitats.
However, the broken nose family is more united, few individuals live alone, experts have not found the opportunity to anesthetize alone, can only monitor day and night, organize surrounding residents to evacuate in advance.
More importantly, elephant populations are slowly migrating southward and are expected to return to their original habitat on their own, and in the absence of other surprises, all we have to do is pay attention to them and guide them southward, rather than forcibly anesthetizing them back.
Elephants are divided into African forest elephants, African steppe elephants and Asian elephants, of which the Asian elephants living in China belong to the Asian elephants, which are smaller than the African elephants.
Asian elephants prefer to live in tropical forest environments, but if the forest is highly closed, it will make it difficult for Asian elephants to survive, because their main food is grasses under large trees, and the denser the forest, the less food the Asian elephants will have.
