It is said that after Daozu Hongjun became enlightened, he preached to sentient beings and hundreds of millions of beings to go to West Kunlun to listen to the Tao, and these six-winged golden wings took this opportunity to guard the road to West Kunlun, specifically hunting and devouring the living beings. However, he did not want to bump into the hands of the daoist who was going to West Kunlun, who saw that his qualifications were against the heavens, and although he was cruel and tyrannical, he still ignited it, and accepted him as the second disciple under the seat, giving him the name golden cicada.
Later, because the Buddhist gate needed to pass on the Dharma from the east, the golden cicada used the name of the slow Dharma to reincarnate into a famous Tang monk, and staged a great drama called Journey to the West.

Background: One of the famous fierce insects of the flood, born with hundreds of feet, back to a hundred eyes, the eyes contain immeasurable golden light, this light can break the world's laws, can transform the immortal gods without leakage, the living beings fall into it, there will be no longer the power to resist, after the day into pus, a body of essence for the golden centipede as a wedding dress.
Therefore, the insect is too ferocious and is not tolerated by the heavens, so the insect's intelligence is extremely weak, and only by absorbing countless beings, and the longer the eyes are up to a thousand eyes, can the wisdom be opened, the worm body is metamorphosed, and the ferocity is destroyed.
In journey to the West, the spider spirit's brother, the Yellow Flower Pavilion Lord, the Hundred-Eyed Demon King, is incarnated by a multi-eyed centipede. With a thousand eyes of golden light in one hand, the Qitian Great Saint Sun Wukong abused him undesirablely, and in the end, it was the Purple Cloud Mountain Thousand Flowers Cave That Pi Lan Po Bodhisattva came to help and subdued the Hundred Eyes Demon King. It is also said that after this Hundred Eyes Demon King was subdued by Vilambhava Bodhisattva, he immersed himself in the Purple Cloud Cave and eventually became the Thousand Eyes and Thousand Hands Buddha of the Buddha' Gate.
