"Haipai" and "Palm"

"Haipai" and "Palm"

Haipai (Series 1), edited by Chen Zishan and Zhang Wei, Shanghai University Press, August 2021, 68.00 yuan.

□ Yao Yiming

Recently, Shanghai University Press published a copy of "Hai Pai" (No. 1), which was edited by Professor Chen Zishan of East China Normal University and Zhang Wei, a research librarian at Shanghai Library. The name of "Hai Pai" is reminiscent of the dispute between the Beijing school and the Hai school that occurred in the literary world nearly a hundred years ago.

"Haipai" (Series 1) has attracted me with many wonderful articles, such as "Zheng Yimei's Diary (December 1953 - January 1954)", which was provided by Zheng Youhui, The granddaughter of Zheng Yimei, and compiled by Liang Ying, for the first time, it publicly disclosed the rare diary of Zheng Yimei, a writer of literature and history in the twentieth century, witnessing Zheng Yimei's daily life and friends and friends in the 1950s, which has strong historical value. There are also "Several Letters from Zhou Xuan to My Grandfather Ding Shu", written by Ding Xia, the grandson of Ding Shu, revealing the letters written by the film actor and singer Miss Zhou Xuan to the cartoonist Mr. Ding Shu in her early years, a total of twelve letters, witnessing the friendship between the two people and the exchanges between literati and artists during the Republic of China period. Yan Jieqiong's "Women's Liberation or Women's Color Consumption?" ——Chinese Women in Early Body Photography" the article conducts a more comprehensive consideration from the early "mannequin incident" and "human body beauty" trend, the early practice of body photography, and the Chinese characteristics of female body photography from a male perspective.

The most attractive thing about "Hai Pai" is "Zheng Yimei's Diary" and "Several Letters from Zhou Xuan to My Grandfather Ding Shu", because this is the first-hand material provided by the descendants of Zheng Yimei and Ding Shu, and you can understand the many details behind the article, which is also the attraction of the palm article. As a literary and historical book named after the "Hai School", such a good article is needed for the display of the past of Shanghai.com. So what is palmache?

According to the literal interpretation, "Palm Gu originally referred to the old system and old practice, and was also the official name of the official in charge of the liturgical system and other officials in the Han Dynasty." Later, a common meaning refers to anecdotes about historical figures, canonical systems, etc. "To put it in layman's terms, it is that the articles written should have a little historical facts, a little gossip, and a little fun, so that the palm is a good article." In fact, Zheng Yimei is a famous writer. In modern times, Xu Yishi, Lu Danlin, Huang Qiuyue, Qu Duizhi, Liu Chengyu, Gao Boyu and so on are also relatively well written.

To write a good article of the palm of the past, first of all, it is necessary to be true and credible, and the historical facts involved must have a source, there must be research, and it is best to experience or hear it yourself. In the 1970s and 1980s, Hong Kong published several well-known magazines, namely "Da Cheng", "Adult", "Dahua", and "Palm History". These palm magazines published in Hong Kong have been favored by lovers of literature and history in recent years because of the contributions of many domestic literary and historical writers and cultural elders, and many articles with strong historical materials have also produced a certain influence.

In 2016, Zhonghua Book Company published the series "Palm History", edited by Xu Jun and yan Xiaoxing as executive editor. "Palm History" is mainly based on writing people and narratives, combing and examining old history, when using rare materials, which are not known to the Taoists, and emphasizing the elegant taste and good realm of the literati - this latter point is an important feature that distinguishes the palm from other historical documents." "At the beginning of the publication, I was full of expectations for this book, and I bought the first two issues. When the first issue of "Palm Ancient" was published, it was just in time for the 13th Shanghai Book Fair, and the Zhonghua Book Company specially held the launch ceremony of "Palm Ancient".

That day, I rushed to the Shanghai Exhibition Center early and met the executive editor-in-chief Yan Xiaoxing, who is a scholar of guqin history and looks very young, as well as Chen Zishan, a guest invited by the organizers, from East China Normal University, whose speech is very humorous and funny. Other guests present included Zhao Heng and Xu Jun. I will buy "Palm History" one by one for Chen Zishan, Yan Xiaoxing, Xu Jun, Zhao Heng and other signatures to keep a souvenir. At the launch ceremony, I met Song Xiyu, a tall man who came from Beijing, and the little Song was a "post-80s", working in Beijing Houlang, writing articles with solid evidence, strong readability, and great skill. Song Xi wrote the article "Gao Luopei's Labyrinth Map, Ding Yue Lake's Incense Burner" in the first issue of "Palm Death", and the "Void Pavilion" on the lid of the Ding's Incense Burner made by Ding Yue Lake was quoted by the Dutch sinologist Gao Luopei when he wrote the "Case of Tang Di Gong", which became the famous labyrinth map in the labyrinth case. "It's just that the illustrations of the novel have added pavilions, turning solid lines into hollow roads, and making slight changes." Xiao Song is meticulous and sharp-minded, showing a strong sense of evidence.

In addition to the first episode, "Palm History" bought the second episode, and then did not buy again, it is said that it has now come out to the eighth episode, which is quite popular among readers and the word of mouth is quite good, but I feel that there are not many articles that interest me, there are more articles in the series, and there are fewer wonderful articles. Remembering that I had submitted articles to a publishing house before, I always remembered the editor's slander: to have first-hand materials, it is best to visit the parties, or future generations; to find relevant materials from the rich materials, so as to support and support the relevant propositions, so as to be a good article.

From "Palm History" to "Hai Pai", this kind of literary and historical examination article has always been more popular, when excavating dusty historical materials, seeking new insights, analyzing historical past events, hooking up historical details, and writing the stories of the past interesting, but it is a literary way, whether it is a "Hai Pai" (I believe it will continue to come out) or an eight-issue "Palm History", there is a long way to go. I remember that The Liaoning Education Publishing House has previously published a book of "Vientiane", although it is not mainly based on palm articles, but it is more knowledgeable and interesting. Compared with "Vientiane", "Palm History" and "Haipai" seem to be slightly inferior, and what may be missing is the interest of the article.

As for the palm of the hand, Lu Xun once wrote in the "Book of Buying the Complete Works of Primary Schools": "For the sake of the prison of words, so that the scholars dare not govern history, especially do not dare to speak about modern affairs, but on the one hand, they also make obscurity in the palm of the past, and the books that the Qianlong Dynasty tried to "destroy" are no longer understood by the old people, and they are regarded as treasure books again in less than one hundred and thirty years." Isn't this also 'stripping the pole must be restored'? I am afraid that the Qianlong Emperor who left behind the elders did not expect it. "What Mr. Lu Xun is talking about here is probably another situation.
