The place that best represents the authority of the ancient emperor is the Forbidden City, which began to be built in 1417 by Ming Chengzu Zhu Di, and it took three years for skilled craftsmen across the country to build this magnificent and luxurious palace.
Since the completion of the Forbidden City, it has become the best place in the minds of feudal emperors, and the 15 emperors of the Ming Dynasty and the 24 emperors of the Qing Dynasty have all lived here. Protection of the Forbidden City

Later, with the development of the revolutionary situation, he did not have the heart to think about visiting the Forbidden City again, but he made several contributions to the Forbidden City.
The first time is that after the Japanese army invaded the northeast, the cultural relics of the Forbidden City were transferred to the northeast, and the ambitious Japan of the wolf began to deploy a full-scale war of aggression against China after easily occupying the northeast, as we all know, the Forbidden City has preserved a lot of precious cultural relics and antiques, and the Japanese have burned and looted everywhere they go, and if the cultural relics of the Forbidden City are not transferred, they will be stolen or destroyed.
In order to safely transfer the cultural relics of the Forbidden City, Chairman Mao's mentor Yi Peiji played a great role in it.
The cultural relics of the Forbidden City are all the best art of various dynasties collected by more than twenty emperors, and any one of them is worth a lot of money, in order to prevent someone from stealing in the process of transporting cultural relics, Yi Peiji also spent a lot of thought. Before Japan invaded China in an all-round way, Chairman Mao's mentor had the foresight to preserve the cultural relics of the Forbidden City.
By the end of the War of Liberation, the People's Liberation Army had won a decisive victory, but the chairman was hesitant when liberating Peiping.
It was not that he did not dare to go to war with Fu Zuoyi, a Kuomintang general stationed in Beiping, but he considered that there were too many cultural relics and monuments in Beijing, and once the war broke out, it would destroy the ancient buildings in the city, which would cause great losses to Chinese culture and history.
At that time, there were many people who had the same concerns as Chairman Mao, and ancient buildings such as the Forbidden City carried The history and culture of China, and if they were destroyed, there would be no more.
Chairman Mao pondered for a long time, decided to peacefully liberate Peiping, and held three rounds of negotiations with Fu Zuoyi, but in the end did not fire a single shot, Peiping was peacefully liberated, and the greatest danger encountered in the history of the Forbidden City was also lifted.
In addition to protecting the Forbidden City, Chairman Mao also donated his treasured "Shangtai Post" and "Double Crane Rui Dance Gift" to the Palace Museum, and it should be known that these two works are from Li Bai's handwriting and Wang Fuzhi's handwriting, which cannot be described as priceless treasures.
Do not enter the Forbidden City
After the People's Liberation Army entered Beiping, Fu Zuoyi prepared two office locations for Chairman Mao, one in Xiangshan, on the western outskirts of Beijing, and the other in the Forbidden City, because the office environment of these two office locations was relatively good.
However, Chairman Mao did not choose a single one, but chose Zhongnanhai, where the conditions were simple, and xiangshan was too far away, transportation was inconvenient, and other comrades had problems commuting to and from work; instead of choosing the Forbidden City, Chairman Mao did not say why.
After that, Chairman Mao also took advantage of every opportunity and rarely had leisure time to walk around. On May 17, 1954, Chairman Mao suddenly told the people around him that he wanted to go to the Forbidden City.
Everyone around the chairman knew that he liked the Forbidden City very much, and now he offered to go to the Forbidden City, and he gladly agreed to accompany him, but the chairman did not enter the Forbidden City when he arrived at the Shenwu Gate, but climbed the tower of the Forbidden City, walked along the city wall for a while and returned.
The people around the chairman are also very puzzling, the chairman has reached the entrance of the Forbidden City, why did not go in. Two days later, there was an exhibition of cultural relics in the Forbidden City, and Chairman Mao proposed to go to the Forbidden City, but on the 19th, he climbed the city tower again, looked at the cultural relics from a distance, and then went back.
On May 20, the chairman came to the gate of the Forbidden City for the third time, and like the previous two times, he just climbed the city tower and looked at it for a while, but did not enter the Forbidden City.
I went to the Forbidden City three times in four days, but I didn't go in, and the chairman's behavior was incomprehensible.
In fact, this is because the chairman is very clear that he is the leader of his new China, and he should draw a clear line with the feudal things in the past, the Forbidden City is the place where the emperors have lived, is a symbol of imperial power, and is also a symbol of feudalism, and Chairman Mao has opposed these things from the beginning, so he will not enter the Forbidden City.
Preservation of the remains
In addition to chairman Mao's visit to the Forbidden City three times and not entering, there is another thing that is more special, that is, he was not buried in the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery after his death.
As early as 1956, when the state vigorously advocated the cremation system, Chairman Mao, Zhou Enlai and other state leaders signed an agreement on cremation after death, and the state also built a highest standard and most famous Babaoshan Cemetery, where people who could be buried here were people who had made special contributions to the country.
Life, old age, illness and death are inevitable natural laws, Chairman Mao also knew in his old age that he would soon die, after the test of war, he also saw many comrades-in-arms who fought side by side die one by one, and the chairman also had a very weak view of life and death, so he once said that he hoped that his ashes could be scattered on the land of his hometown Shaoshan.
On September 9, 1976, the great Chairman Mao passed away, and there were also different voices at that time about how to place his body. Some people believe that the chairman should follow the will of the chairman and scatter his ashes in his hometown after cremation; some people believe that the chairman has made immortal merits for the cause of the motherland and the people, and that his body should be preserved for future generations to see.
Later, the chairman's body was not cremated, and the Party Central Committee set up a special body to be responsible for the placement and preservation of the chairman's body. For a time, talents from the medical circles of the whole country gathered together to discuss the method of preserving the remains, and on the other hand, skilled craftsmen from all over the country began to build Chairman Mao's memorial hall and the chairman's crystal coffin.
