Houguanhu Wetland Park is a national wetland park, covering an area of three times that of Donghu Wetland Park, is the largest wetland park in Wuhan, with a pristine natural landscape of "green mountains hidden around the water, and egrets flying deep in the grass beach".
The wetlands I know
The wetland research and education activities for primary and secondary school students in Wuhan have once again entered the Houguanhu Wetland Park. Last Sunday, under the leadership of nature mentors, the "Little Wetland Chiefs" from Wuhan Qingchuan Junior High School opened the "Wetland Discovery" through the exploration of wetland animals and plants.

First of all, Honeysuckle, the nature instructor of Hubei Bode Ecological Center, brought everyone to have a general understanding of wetland organisms. "About half of the more than 40 species of birds under national level protection live in wetland habitats." In addition to birds, the ponds in the wetlands contain fish, molluscs, and many different plants, which are scattered in the wetlands, which are divided into submerged plants, floating plants, floating plants, and water plants.
See what flora and fauna live in the wetlands
Write down your knowledge of wetlands
"I hope that through the practical exploration of the Houguanhu Wetland, I can learn the living habits and morphological characteristics of the wetland animals and plants, and broaden my horizons, see some interesting creatures, and learn more about the water environment." The students were divided into three groups: "Shangshan Ruoshui", "Ripples" and "Dripping Water Seeing Mountains" to share their expectations for the activities with everyone.
Because the wetland is both rich in terrestrial and aquatic animal and plant resources, forming a natural gene pool and a unique biological environment that cannot be matched by any other single ecosystem, the special soil and climate provide complex and complete flora and fauna communities, which have irreplaceable ecological value for protecting species and maintaining biodiversity.
Recognize wetland ecology
Each of our students is an important part of the wetland ecosystem, and we are interconnected to form a closely connected ecological network. The change of each factor has a more or less impact on the ecology of the wetland.
Constitute a wetland ecological network
Everyone in the "net" is closely related
Wetland hydrology, soil and climate interact to form the main elements of the wetland ecosystem environment. When these environmental elements are disturbed by natural or human activities, the stability of the ecosystem is damaged to a certain extent, which in turn affects the structure of the biome and changes the wetland ecosystem.
Great discovery of wetlands
"There's a bird swimming in the water, like a black water chicken." The "small wetland chief" has formed a certain understanding of the species of animals and plants in the wetland habitat, and when everyone really goes to the wetland, they have recognized these common wetland animals and plants.
Take the net and we'll see what we'll find in the pond. "There is a river mussel, everyone looks at it, this kind of mussel common in our lives is called dorsal hornless mussel, from its name you know how to recognize it, the shape is slightly horned, and the stranded part is toothless."
The Natural Tutor Pattern also explained to the students the difference between the dorsal horn toothless mussel and another common mussel, the domed bead mussel.
This activity is one of the wetland research and education activities for primary and secondary school students in Wuhan, which is jointly planned and carried out by the Wuhan Municipal Bureau of Landscape architecture and forestry, the Wuhan Municipal Education Bureau, and the Alibaba Public Welfare Foundation.
