The choir, made up of more than 100 male members, first sang the revolutionary song "Song of General Kim Il Sung" in Pyongyang in 1948, and they have since appeared at all major cultural and artistic events in Pyongyang. Many of these singers and performers have won the "Kim Il Sung Award", "Hero of Labor Award", "People's Artist", "Meritorious Artist" and other honors.
According to the report, the last time the Meritorious National Choir visited Beijing was at the end of 2015, when it was accompanied by the Peony Peak Orchestra. The orchestra, made up of about 20 female members, is the most popular orchestra in North Korea.
