Black agriculture is a new concept that has emerged in the field of ecological circular agriculture after green agriculture, blue agriculture and white agriculture, which was first proposed by Professor Liu Yusheng of Shandong Agricultural University.

Professor Liu Yusheng gave the concept of black agriculture as follows: an emerging agricultural industry field with organic waste resources as the material basis, insect production technology, insect bacteria composite technology and biological system technology as the core technology support, and insect resource products and industrial chains as the goal. The black agricultural technology system is divided into three levels: one is the research and utilization of a single species of environmental insects; the second is the combination and utilization of microorganisms and environmental insects, that is, the composite technology of insects; and the third is the combination technology of a variety of environmental organisms with environmental insects as the main body, that is, the technology of environmental biological systems.
Environmental insects can feed on aging, rotten straw and various types of organic waste that cannot be digested and digested by ruminants. It can not only make full use of moisture, crush organic materials, creating favorable conditions for microbial decomposition, but also provide organic material debris and worm sand for invertebrates. The use of environmental insects can be called "agricultural black technology".
