According to Taiwan media sources such as Lianhe Pao, at 11:21 a.m. on June 3, a container ship durban of Hong Kong's Orient Overseas (OOCL) was suspected of hitting Pier 70 of Yangming Shipping in Kaohsiung Port due to improper operation.
The accident caused 1 person to be sent to the hospital with minor injuries and 2 people to be trapped, and the trapped persons have been rescued and uninjured. Another 2 cranes were damaged, 1 ship was slightly damaged to the head and 30 to 50 containers were damaged.
At present, there is no congestion in the port, loading and unloading at Pier 70 has been suspended, and ships have been diverted to the next dock. The container ship durban, which caused the accident, had docked at Pier 66 at noon pending investigation.
Taiwan Port Company said that after investigation, the container ship durban entered the port from Kaohsiung Port No. 2 on the morning of June 3, preparing to dock 66, but when the ship sailed through Pier 70, it hit the Sun Life ship and crane moored at Pier 70.
Taiwan media reported that the two cranes damaged in the collision are expected to be worth about NT$600 million. Another container collapsed, and the losses added up to nearly NT$1 billion, ready to claim compensation from OOCL.
Taiwan Port Company said the container ship Durban weighed a total of 86,679 tons and a total length of 316 meters; the two crane models damaged were gc8 and gc6, one collapsed and one was badly damaged but not collapsed.
