Text/Nine Strings Day (Nine Uncles)
Small scenes with big suspense
There is such a kind of movie, there is no grand and gorgeous action scenes, the scene is extremely simple, the actors are few, relying on the excellent plot and choreographer's careful laying out of the atmosphere, simply with the layers of the story to advance can catch people's attention.
For example, Colin Farrell's "Sniper Phone Booth", in a small telephone booth, a suspenseful and cleverly conceived story occurs. There is also Uncle Nine's favorite "Buried Alive", buried in a wooden box under the ground, is our teasing "Deadpool", a small space, even turn around is difficult, how to escape, nervous, exciting!
Sniper Phone Booth
Buried Alive
Today, Uncle Nine is giving you a commentary on the same type of film, called "Sinner", based on the Danish film of the same name, starring Jack in the Oscar-winning film "Brokeback Mountain". Gyllenhaal, face value acting double online. A starring actor, a phone, an office, simple and willful.
Plot Review: The Rescue and being saved behind the impulse
The story takes place in Los Angeles, a fire is spreading, the whole city is in anxiety and turmoil, crimes are frequent everywhere, and the police force in the city is urgent.
In this context, Joe, who was originally a front-line police detective, was transferred to the logistics because of the mistakes made by the previous law enforcement, and became an operator of the 911 reporting center, responsible for receiving a variety of reports from the public every day. There are drunken people with bad attitudes and nonsense, there are lost cats and dogs that need the help of the police to find, and in the face of these trifles, Joe, who has asthma, is a little anxious.
Joe himself suffers from asthma
During the break between work, his private mobile phone received a strange phone call, the other party claimed to be a los Angeles Times reporter, to ask about tomorrow, Joe angrily questioned the other party and hung up the phone, but because of answering the private phone call was reprimanded by the supervisor.
In Uncle Nine's view, Joe's recoil is not just an excuse to vent, after all, he is used to real knives and real guns on the front line, and there is no distinction between so-called public and private calls, in their eyes, every incoming call may be a case or a clue. Otherwise, judging by his attitude toward reporters, his own affairs seem to be quite troublesome, to the point of alarming the local media, and Joe will not take the risk of answering strange calls to add to his own blockage.
The subsequent phone call claimed to have been robbed, Joe came to the spirit, and finally the hero had a place to play, so he asked for the specific location, but the other party wanted to stop talking, Joe, who had seen the big wind and waves, was experienced, faced with the cover of the other end of the phone, with keen insight to find the mystery, after constantly asking about the appearance of the robber, the information obtained: young woman, charming appearance, hot figure... This is robbery, it is clear that the man who prostitutes is not anti-retaliation.
Hurriedly contact the police in charge, it turned out to be an old acquaintance, the former colleague is now arresting the big drug lord, while he and a group of civilians, in this closed office, to deal with the prostitutes call the police to catch prostitutes such a funny case, can't help but laugh bitterly, but also let the irritable mood ease a lot.
The next phone call was enough to change Joe's life. The caller was a woman, named Emily, with a faint voice, slurring, talking and answering questions. There was a stern-sounding man next to her who had been urging, she seemed to be scared, and the conversation with Joe was more like pretending to be talking to the child. Joe was alert, realizing that things were not simple. So, while comforting Emily, he taught her to confirm the location and related information by answering yes or no.
Emily told herself in a white van and hung up before she could reveal more information. The location showed on the outskirts of the city, and Joe suspected it was a kidnapping. So, immediately contact the highway patrol, but the information is not complete, there is no license plate number, now the police force is tense, to check along the road is not easy, which makes Joe greatly annoyed.
Just when the highway patrol called, he said that there was a white van not far in front of him, which basically matched Joe's description. Joe waited anxiously, and then the news came, and after catching up, after checking, there was no sign of kidnapping, and it should not be the one that Emily called the police. Joe was disappointed and fiercely demanded that all highways be turned off... For an uncertain kidnapping? This was simply unrealistic, and was dismissed by the commander in front of him, and Joe became even more annoyed and began to hysterically.
Joe works on the front line, has to face many criminals every day, although he has a righteous heart, he has also developed an impulsive and impatient personality, and his hot temper may be the reason for his previous mistakes.
Joe was uncomfortable with this kind of civilian service
After adjusting slightly and calming down, Joe found Emily's home phone and called. On the other end of the phone was a crying little girl named Abby, only 6 years old, who said that her mother had been taken away by her father, and that the only people in the house were herself and a brother who was still a baby. Abby reveals her father Henry's phone number, which Joe obtains the license plate number and Henry's address.
Shockingly, Joe found out that Henry had a previous conviction and had been in jail. Combined with Abby's description, her parents divorced, and her father yelled at her mother, which further aggravated Joe's judgment that Henry must have kidnapped his ex-wife Emily.
Repeatedly telling Abby that something must call him, Joe dialed the Highway Patrol Again, gave the license plate number, and asked that someone be sent to Emily's house immediately to check it out. However, there are too many fire calls and limited police mobilization, and the estimated arrival time cannot be guaranteed.
At a loss, the reporter called again, which made Joe even more angry. As he was about to leave work, Joe switched to a quiet office and dialed the police communications office again, asking two groups to be sent to Emily's house and to Henry's house to search for clues. Because there was no search warrant, the police only agreed to send someone to check on the child's condition, and immediately refused Joe's unreasonable request to let the police kick in the door to search henry's house.
Without stopping, Joe simply called Henry, asked him directly if he was with Emily, and threatened the other party with knowing that Henry had been in prison, the words were very fierce, Henry nervously denied and hung up the phone. Call again, Henry does not answer. At this point, Joe was already furious, and with asthma irritation, he almost suffocated.
Not caring much, Joe called his partner, explained the situation, and asked the other party in a private capacity to rush to Henry's house to find clues. During the conversation between the two, the film tells the audience about Joe. In his previous duties, Joe made a very serious mistake and is under investigation by the Federal Bureau along with his partner. The trial will be held tomorrow, and the two have already made a confession in private, and as long as they act according to plan, Joe will be acquitted and everything will return to normal.
Joe is convinced that Henry has kidnapped his ex-wife Emily
The colleague informed Abby of the call, and Joe learned that the police sent had entered the room, and Abby was now so scared that she regretted opening the door for them, because in the eyes of the child, she only knew that it was the police who had taken her father. Joe comforted Abby, the police at the scene answered the phone, saying that Abby was covered in blood, as if it was lying in the house of his brother, the brother's life and death are uncertain, need to contact the hospital for emergency intervention, is talking, a noisy, the phone hung up...
Joe's brain went blank and his body trembled, Henry killed his own child, kidnapped his ex-wife, and Abby and a dead baby were grounded at home unattended, and that was Joe's conclusion. He dialed Henry's number again, and this time he answered, and Joe scolded henry for being mad, and if it wasn't for the phone blockage, Joe would have given Henry a shot. Henry didn't say much, just denied it, claiming that he was the victim, and hung up again.
Henry said he was the victim
How could Joe believe Henry's lies, that Henry was the murderer? He tried to dial Emily's phone, and it did, and his voice was very weak. Joe directed, letting her pull the handbrake hard, and there was a sound of a sharp brake, and the phone hung up. Hit it again, it doesn't work, Joe can only wait.
Emily's phone finally came in, and she cried that she had done what Joe had instructed, to no avail, and that she had been locked up in a dark trunk. Joe told her to calm down and look for anything that could be used as a weapon. Emily found the brick, and Joe taught her to wait for the car to stop and smash the brick into Henry's head, not to hesitate, because he deserved it.
In order to make Emily have no psychological barriers, the topic gradually talked about the child. Emily began to talk gibberish, as if she was a little delirious, mentioning that her brother had a snake in his stomach and wanted to help his brother take it out... Joe was a little confused, and before he could think about it, a scream came from the phone and hung up, leaving only Joe sitting dazed.
That's when the partner calls and finds henry's indictment in the messy house where he lost custody of the child and a statement from Emily at the state hospital's psychiatric treatment center, where she was a patient. Joe glanced at the last location on the screen that had disappeared, and thoughtfully, all the clues pointed in another direction of his own judgment.
Call Henry's phone, and the location shown is indeed near the state hospital. Henry cried on the other end of the phone and told the reason for the incident, because he had been in prison, so he lost custody of the child, and Emily did not know that her actions would hurt the child to death because of mental problems, and did not want to receive treatment, Henry had to forcibly take her to the hospital. However, due to Joe's kindness to "intervene", at the intersection before arriving at the hospital, he was injured by Emily with a brick, and Emily's whereabouts are also unknown... Before I could finish speaking, the phone dropped. Dialing over again, no one answered, and Joe was on the verge of collapse.
In desperation, Emily's phone rang to the other colleagues, and Joe hurriedly asked them to transfer in. It sounded unstable that Emily came to the viaduct in a trance and claimed to be jumping down to find her child. In order not to let his impulsive negligence lead to disaster, Joe comforted Emily to calm down, while tapping the glass to ask his colleagues to give the latest location notice to the highway patrol.
Emily is in danger of falling at any time, Joe can only use all kinds of words on the phone to persuade her not to do stupid things, in a hurry to say the pain she is facing, in a duty, because the suspect insulted his father, Joe angrily shot and killed the other party, and the other party is just a young boy... Emily on the phone was still muttering to herself, as if she had reached the edge of the viaduct, and vaguely heard the sirens...
At this moment, the phone suddenly stopped, and the positioning on the screen disappeared... Annoyed, remorseful, extremely guilty, Joe dialed repeatedly, but no one answered...
Do you have to pay for your impulses again?
At this moment, the phone rings, the police communications office calls, and Emily is saved by the police who arrived in time!
Relieved, Joe finally burst into tears.
The good news came again, the brother who was still a baby had been safely transferred to the hospital, still alive, and there was always hope in life!
The fallen man saves the fallen man, this is the word given to him by Joe's colleague, and it is also the portrayal of Joe's night. But if you have already made a big mistake and face judgment tomorrow, how can you get salvation?
Physically and mentally exhausted, Joe washed his face and prepared for the coming tomorrow. If the film ends here, Joe's fate stops in the viewer's infinite reverie...
After a thrilling night, Joe called his partner and decided not to hide it anymore and tell the truth. Finally, dialed the los Angeles Times reporter's phone, Joe must bravely face the punishment of the law and achieve true self-redemption!
What a sinner
At the beginning of the film, there is a quote, "The truth makes people free", and the title of the film is "Sinner", which sinners and which sinners in that film.
Joe is a policeman, and his job is supposed to be to save people, but he kills people out of anger and impulsiveness, which is a crime. Originally wanting to cover up the truth and gain legal freedom, this is another sin, and in the process of saving Emily, he almost added to the crime of wrong judgment. Emily's rescue truly saw her inner self, shed her shackles, embraced the truth, and realized the true freedom of her soul.
In the film, Joe calls his wife to talk to his daughter, but the child is already asleep and is rejected by his wife. During the conversation, we learned that the relationship between husband and wife has been cracked, perhaps because of work reasons to neglect the care of the family, perhaps because of the manslaughter incident, the original harmonious family has lost its tranquility. In the eyes of his family, at least in the eyes of his family, Joe was a sinner.
Joe wanted to talk to his daughter on the phone
Joe's partner is a righteous man, for the sake of friends, agreed to appear in court to testify falsely, if Joe really escaped the crime, he became an accomplice to the murder, to bear a lifetime of psychological pressure. When he answered Joe's call, he had expressed emotional depression and was anesthetizing himself with alcohol.
And the boy who was shot by Joe is not completely innocent, if he had not insulted other people's fathers and touched the bottom line of others, Joe might not have lost his mind and would have avoided this difficulty himself.
Emily, just an ordinary kind mother, has hurt her child because of mental problems. So why is custody of a child awarded to someone with mental problems? Because, Father Henry, was a bad guy, he had been in jail, had a criminal record, was untrustworthy, and anyone would look at such a sinner with colored glasses, even if he really loved his own children.
On the phone, Henry once told Joe that they had social workers, doctors, and lawyers to contact, but no one could really help, so he had to choose to take Emily to the hospital. It is conceivable that Henry has encountered many cold eyes in society and how much criticism he has endured, so that he cannot trust anyone. In the end, it was the police who really wanted to help them the most.
Henry didn't trust anyone
Joe didn't understand why Henry didn't go to the police
The ending is finally satisfactory, if everything is not so beautiful, if it is because of Joe's error in judgment, the worst result has emerged, then who is the sinner? What is the sin of a sinner?
