According to Thr, American actor Chris Pratt, who starred in the Marvel series of movies, will voice Garfield in a new animated film.
Alcon Entertainment, by Andrew Kossov and Broderick Johnson, is behind the new Garfield animated film, which has been distributed globally by Sony Pictures agencies (excluding Chinese mainland). The screenplay was written by Oscar-nominated Finding Nemo screenwriter David Reynolds and directed by Four-Eyed Rooster director Mark Tinddal, who had previously collaborated on Disney's Becoming Emperor.
Alcon received the rights from Davis, who will serve as executive producer for the film alongside Bridget McMeel and Craig Sost from Amuse. John Cohen and Steven P. Wegner made with Kosove and Johnson. DNeg Animation, who recently worked on the animated feature film Providence, will animate the film. DNEG CEO Namit Malhotra and President Tom Jacomb both serve as producers.
Created by American cartoonist Jim Davis, Garfield first appeared in comic form in 1978, this lazy orange tabby cat often causes trouble for his human owner Jon Abaquer and adorable house dog Odi. Garfield made its debut in 41 newspapers and currently holds the record for the world's most extensive joint comics.
Garfield had previously appeared on the big screen in the 2004 live-action and animated hybrid version and its sequel to 2006's Garfield: Two Cats. In these films, produced by 20th Century Fox, Bill Murray voices Garfield.
Chris Pratt's voice work includes the Lego movie and Pixar's Onward, as well as the upcoming Universal and Nintendo collaboration super Mario Bros. animated feature, for which he will voice Mario. Chris Pratt will also most recently appear in Amazon's sci-fi movie War of Tomorrow, as well as Jurassic World 3: Domination next June.
