In particular, since late October, under the cover of joint operations by US and Japanese aircraft carriers in the South China Sea, Vietnam's island-building operations have become noticeably bolder. At this time, the PLA warships were also monitoring the movements of US and Japanese aircraft carriers, and Vietnam engaged in this kind of "black under the lights" move, just as short-sighted as India.
Dunqian Sandbar
According to the "South China Sea Strategic Situation Perception" source, according to the "Sentinel" satellite image, Vietnam has recently carried out a new round of expansion work on a number of illegally occupied islands and reefs in the South China Sea, of which the traces of Dun Qian Sandbank, Xiu (Yisheng) Island and Lifelong Reef are the most obvious (as shown in the GIF).
Tun Khan Sandbar is an island of the Zheng Ho Ho Reefs in the Nansha Province, with an area of about 0.04 square kilometers, and almost half of this area is formed by illegal reclamation by the Vietnamese side. Dun Qian, taken from captain li DunQian of the HMS Zhongye, was commissioned in 1946 to take over the Spratly Islands.
Satellite GIFs show that dunqian sandbar has one more channel than before, located in the northeast direction, and a construction work belt has also been built to the west. According to the news, the length and width of the work belt are about 300 meters and 30 meters, respectively.
Hung Woo Island
Hongyu Island, also near the Zhenghe Reefs, covers an area of about 0.08 square kilometers. The name was given in honor of the deputy captain of the Zhongye Ship, Yang Hongxiu, who accepted the island at that time.
According to sources, the Vietnamese side has illegally carried out land reclamation projects on the west side of Hongyu Island, and the progress is very fast, and it has now filled an area of 15,000 square meters. In other words, Vietnam's territory also expanded by 15,000 square meters during this time.
Lifelong Reef
In terms of lifelong reefs, Vietnam's actions were even more blatant, sending a number of large equipment to start at the same time, digging a channel of more than 600 meters in length, and also building a dock.
The reason for the construction of the channel is that the water near these reefs is often only a few meters or less deep, which cannot allow large ships to drive over. On the other hand, Vietnam's construction of shipping lanes on these islands and reefs is the same as building an airport runway on the islands, in order to facilitate the rapid arrival of its own ships and planes in the areas and deepen its illegal control over these islands and reefs.
