On the morning of April 3, the 8th Chengdu Time-limited Bird Watching Competition, one of the 40th Bird Love Week activities in Sichuan Province and Chengdu City, was held in Chengdu Botanical Garden, and more than 80 people signed up for the competition. The contest starts at 09:00 and ends at 11:30 with a limit of 2.5 hours. After judging, Yu Huan won the championship by recording 30 species of birds, the second place Tian Hanxing recorded 28 species, and the third winner was Qian Xiong, who recorded 26 species.

A total of 60 species of birds were recorded in this competition. Compared with the first time-limited bird watching competition held in the Botanical Garden in 2017, 9 kinds of birds were not recorded this time, such as tiger striped bird, Dai Ju, pure color mountain wren warbler, common eagle, Dai Sheng, gray-eyed bird, eagle crane, small white-waisted swift, and heron, and 17 kinds of birds were newly recorded, including white-throated grebe, chestnut-headed bird warbler, red-bellied embroidered bird, dark green embroidered eye bird, chestnut-bellied sandpiper, crested eagle, black capuchin, red-tailed water plover, gray-backed plover, tabby plover, purple howling, smoke-bellied hairy bird, brown-bellied fairybird, yellow-browed willow warbler, common kingfisher, crowned willow warbler, and black-browed willow warbler.

At the opening ceremony, Shen You released the "Chengdu Bird List 2.0" compiled by Dr. Zhu Lei of the Bird Species Record Committee of the Chengdu Bird Watching Association.
The competition was jointly sponsored by Chengdu Municipal Park City Construction Administration, Chengdu Botanical Garden, Chengdu Bird Watching Club and Chengdu Rural Corridor. Li Jianguo, Secretary-General of Sichuan Wildlife Conservation Association, Li Fangwen, Deputy Director of Chengdu Botanical Garden, Dr. Que Pinjia of Chengdu Giant Panda Base, Shen You, Chairman of Chengdu Bird Watching Association, Jiang Zhiyou, President of Rural Corridor Nature School, and Wei Qian, President of Chongqing Bird Watching Association, attended the opening ceremony.
