Background:

Peasant children, no background and no talent, in addition to a little love to read, there is nothing outstanding, master's degree graduation for nearly 10 years, now settled in Pengcheng, in a state-owned enterprise as a technical expert, just obtained the title of senior engineer.

My career can be roughly divided into three stages:

Ten years ago, I judged by high wages, room for career growth, and outrageous housing prices, and left the imperial capital as soon as I graduated and came to a central enterprise in Rongcheng, staying for 5 years.

Description: The high salary is only relative to the other offers I got, and the career has room to rise based on the judgment that the target unit is a newly established department, and the house price is not so outrageous because the house price in the imperial capital was already unattainable at that time.

In these 5 years, I have completed the transformation from a student to a professional: from participating in the development of the first product, to completing the development of the product led by myself; from writing only primary modules to being responsible for the system architecture design of the entire end product. In the process of this transformation, I have achieved the initial accumulation of practical skills required in the workplace.

However, the rigid and backward ideology and management system of state-owned enterprises in the western region, as well as the neglect of productization and marketization, have made me see no prospects for growth, and wages have hardly increased. In this case, for a poor peasant child like me who has no background, the channel for rising is basically gone. After completing the project in charge, I resolutely left the comfortable and comfortable Rongcheng with my family and jumped to a private company in Pengcheng, although at this time I barely had the conditions to settle in Rongcheng.

Looking back, some of the approaches or perspectives I adhered to during this period benefited me immensely:

Continuous learning

The slogan of lifelong learning has been widely circulated and is not a new thing.

Education in schools is all general education or more professional academic research. From a student to a professional, the first thing I have to face is to learn and master the practical skills required for work tasks in the shortest possible time. With the expansion of the scope of work, it is necessary to use a lot of knowledge or technology that has not been learned before, especially the emergence of various new technologies in the current situation, which requires me to constantly understand, learn, and apply what I have learned. This kind of learning does not require the same time as when school is in school, and the whole book or the entire knowledge system is completed. Many times it is based on actual work tasks, what needs to be learned, this kind of targeted and temporary learning has accompanied my past career, and it turns out that it is this kind of learning method that supports me to complete the initial technical accumulation and work performance output.

According to the needs of the work to quickly and targeted, I found learning to be so useful and interesting!

Find directions or areas where you can play to your strengths

Everyone has their own strengths or strengths. If a person is engaged in a cause that just happens to play to his strengths, he is more likely to achieve results.

My strength is strong logical thinking. Therefore, in the early stages of my career, I have always positioned my career direction as a software development-related job or position, and by taking advantage of my strong logical thinking ability, I have gradually grown from a junior software engineer to a mid-level software engineer, and later became a senior software engineer.

Some people are good at logical thinking; some people are naturally affinity, eloquent, and good at dealing with people; some people have good athletic talent...

How do you discover your strengths?

The test results of various engineering courses when I was studying at the school proved my expertise in logical thinking.

I want to emphasize that if you have achieved some achievements in a certain area, even if these achievements may seem insignificant to others, you must not ignore it easily, and try to find out which of your characteristics or strengths played a key role in achieving these achievements.

Based on your own strengths, constantly try or adjust, find a job or direction that can play these strengths, rather than blindly stumbling in the field that you are not good at.

Pursue time-lapse feedback

All online games can attract many people because of its real-time feedback, the routine of fighting monsters and upgrading exists in many popular games, one word, can make you "cool"!

So, is it also necessary to pursue this kind of instant feedback in everything at work?

For some time before I resigned from my first company, I still worked the drafting and filing of patents, although I knew that these efforts might not bring me anything immediately, especially since I probably would not develop in the so-owned enterprise system later, and patents were not of much value to me. But I think that in the environment of continuous emphasis on intellectual property, patents will be more and more valued, maybe my efforts may be unexpected? I'm certainly not a prophet, but in my key promotions, these patents did provide me with a good third-party endorsement to stand out smoothly, which is a delayed feedback on my efforts a few years ago!

Many times, the payment can not be immediately rewarded, or even for a long period of time there will be no return, so is this kind of payment not to be done? I think that less utilitarianism and the pursuit of delayed feedback will make us go smoother and farther.

Grateful heart

People-to-people interactions are out of the need for work and interests, but there are also unilateral efforts that do not seek any return. When we receive advice or guidance from leaders, colleagues, seniors, and friends, we should not take this help for granted.

At the beginning of my employment, I had a period of confusion, and I consulted with teachers, seniors or experienced colleagues, and most of them were able to get more enthusiastic guidance or help. At that time, I didn't have much ability to reciprocate their help, but when I asked for advice, I would try to reduce the cost of helping the other party. For example, prepare the questions asked for advice as detailed and specific as possible, while ensuring that the questions are as closely related to the experience and experience of the other party as possible, and will also consider the frequency of the consultation, as well as the time arrangement of the other party. This not only reduces the cost of the other party's reply, so that the other party has a better perception, but also allows themselves to get more effective advice. In addition, after I have some growth and progress, I will pay attention to inheriting and carrying forward this helpful spirit of my predecessors or friends, and I am willing to actively give others some suggestions that I think are useful. In this way, I hope to pass on the spirit of helpfulness.

No one in this world is born to owe anyone, for the guidance or help of others, we should always be grateful, so that the world is more and more beautiful.

In the 2nd company, with the pursuit of dreams, I passionately invested in the development of new products, 996 is the norm, often at night after work at 10 o'clock, the bus is still overcrowded, looking back at the days in Rongcheng, it is simply two worlds.

Unfortunately, this fiery state only lasted for 1 year. The boss's changing demand for products, the lack of strength of the team I led, my own lack of experience in the landing of new products, in addition, the boss's promises have not been fulfilled, and my body feels overwhelmed, various factors led me to end this private trip after 1 year.

Looking back, this high-intensity product development practice experience has made a good tempering of my past technology accumulation, and the demand for new technologies in the product development process has once again improved my ability to learn quickly, and also made me feel a very different private enterprise style from state-owned enterprises.

Professor Ning Xiangdong of Tsinghua University believes that choosing a career needs to focus on 2 factors: industry and leadership.

The Internet of Things industry is a hot industry that I have been paying attention to and tracking since I was a graduate student, and most of the work content in the past also belongs to the category of Internet of Things. When it came time to change jobs again, between the robotics industry and the IoT industry, I finally chose the IoT industry.

I think the IoT industry needs scale support, so I came to the Pengcheng branch of a strong central enterprise and started my state-owned enterprise journey again.

In order to realize my dream of developing a good product, I am once again enthusiastically involved in the development of new products. My dedication and dedication allowed me to gain the recognition of my leaders and colleagues, and also allowed me to finally complete the development of 2 terminal products led by me and personally involved. When I see the code I write end up running through the products used by thousands of customers, I have a heartfelt sense of accomplishment, isn't that what I've been pursuing in the past?

Rich product development experience and project results, as well as a number of patents I submitted in the first state-owned enterprise have been authorized, these patent bonuses, so that I successfully competed to become a technical expert in the 8th year after work (the company's lowest management staff, the same level as the director, partial technical direction), but also from the team leader to a nearly 30-person R & D team leader, and successfully entered the final evaluation stage of senior engineers of the group. Then, not long after, I passed the senior engineer final evaluation and obtained the title of senior engineer (deputy senior).

While this progress is a little late or even insignificant compared to my peers, I still see it as recognition and feedback on the ongoing efforts of my past career.

In my opinion, the reason why I chose the current platform and reached the current state is closely related to the following elements:

Don't forget your original intention

Ma Yun has a saying, people always have dreams, what if they are realized?

I don't want to talk about chicken soup for the soul, but I'll just use my own example to illustrate: having a pursuit can make it easier for you to make better choices at some key moments in your life.

Since I joined the work, I have always been obsessed with developing products that can be mass-produced and applied by hand, and this idea originated from the graduate school stage. At that time, he was mainly engaged in algorithm research, although it was a relatively cutting-edge technology, but due to various limitations, it could not be converted into a product for practical application, and it lacked a sense of achievement. At the first company, including the first product I was involved in and the product I led, it was not used in the actual production operation. Especially the products I lead the research and development, in order to achieve the obsession of mass application of products, I have enthusiastically promoted its practical application, including persuading the relevant departments of the leadership organization to hold a relatively high-level product application promotion meeting, the conclusion of the meeting is of course that the participating units will actively contact and promote the practical application of the product. However, due to the lack of a mature new product application mechanism, the product has never been applied to the actual production operation. I aspire to be able to develop products that can be mass-produced and applied, so when I need to choose whether to continue my comfortable and comfortable career as a state-owned enterprise in Rongcheng or start a challenging and stressful journey to private enterprises in Pengcheng, I can make up my mind to choose the latter, just to be able to achieve what I have always wanted! In the second company, due to insufficient staffing, my lack of productization experience, and frequent changes in the needs of the boss, the product could not be developed, which was farther from my goal of making a product that could be applied in batches. When I saw that the situation would not be effectively improved in the short term and that I could not achieve my ordinary pursuit, I changed my stage again, and this time the change of stage was only about 1 year from the last time. In the end, I fully considered the strength and support of the third company in terms of productization, and finally chose it. It was here that I finally devoted myself to product research and development under the background of the company's sufficient resources and clear productization requirements, and finally achieved my goal of mass production and application of the products I personally developed.

In the nearly 10 years of my career, I have always remembered the idea when I was studying, and I must make products that can be applied in batches, this idea has always driven my work, driven my career direction, allowed me to continue to learn, improve myself, and finally find the right stage and realize it.

Remember, there will be echoes!

Focus, do not easily switch industries

Focus allows you to achieve sustained growth; and by focusing time and energy on an industry or field for a long time, it can make it easier for you to reach a higher level than your peers who frequently switch tracks, and then grow faster!

Looking back on the past 3 career experiences, I have been focusing most of my time and energy on knowledge learning or skill improvement related to the development of equipment products based on my professional direction. As a result, over time, I grew from developing simple modules to being able to lead teams to develop mass-produced products; from having a relatively shallow understanding of the IoT industry to becoming a technologist for companies specializing in the IoT industry.

Of course, not everyone can find an area or direction that they are willing to invest in and can continue to grow. I would say that once you find the right direction, stay focused, or you'll waste effort or investment in that direction. You will find that the older you get, the less time you will run out, because this is an era that requires lifelong learning.

Professional attitude

If you want to achieve results, you need both ability and attitude.

Ability is the basis for your ability to do the job, and professional attitude can make you more effective in the ability, or attitude can give ability bonus, so as to get more opportunities than people with the same ability.

The working atmosphere of state-owned enterprises is much more relaxed than that of private enterprises, and if the requirements for self are relaxed, there is no obvious harm in the short term. But I always believe that a harvest is a harvest. For the work I am responsible for, I do not need the impetus of external forces, but adhere to the morality of a professional, that is, according to the needs of the work, completed on time and with good quality, and even in some extreme cases, voluntary extra payment, just to ensure timely delivery. This dedicated attitude has allowed me to gain the recognition of leaders and colleagues, and also allowed me, an ordinary peasant boy with no background and no good communication, to get various pk opportunities many times.

Ability is the basic condition for progress, and professional attitudes can give you more opportunities than others. Many times, getting a chance is the key to being able to stand out from your peers.

Luck, or the big growing environment

Choose a good industry. Since graduation, I have chosen the Internet of Things industry or similar industrial automation and robotics, which are very dynamic and well-developed industries in the past decade. Choose the right platform. The three companies I work for, there are newly established application research institutes of state-owned enterprises, newly established private enterprises, and newly established state-owned enterprise subsidiaries, and I chose one of the key factors in their choice: they are all newly established platforms, and for individuals, there is a large room for growth.

Good luck is not in our hands, but we can increase our probability of success by choosing good industries and platforms.

Looking back on the nearly ten years of career, being able to reach this state is, of course, the result of a combination of many inevitable and accidental factors. But I still believe that the following things I did played a key role in my growth:

Choosing a career several times, never forgetting their own pursuits, not departing from their professional expertise, and focusing on the Internet of Things industry, without frequently switching tracks.

He invested twelve points of energy and enthusiasm in the first product he led the development. In addition to doing a good job in the project, he did a good job of sorting out and summarizing in a timely manner, and wrote several patents. This practice of not pursuing short-term gains, but simply hoping to do one thing deeply and thoroughly, has brought unexpected gains to me.

All the products or tasks that they are responsible for will be responded to with a career attitude, whether it is long-term overtime or occasional temporary overnight, they are sincerely hoping to make results, rather than relying on the company's or superiors' hard requirements or assignments to drive.

There is still a long way to go, and I still need to continue to learn and practice, maintain a professional spirit and humble attitude, and invest in the future.
