Su Dongpo can recite with his eyes and export into chapters, with the boldness of Li Taibai and the agility of Cao Zijian. Moreover, in that era of literati, whether it was poetry pairings, calligraphy and painting, essays, and political articles, it was one of the only few all-rounders in Chinese history.

It is precisely because of his high talent that Su Dongpo in his youth was very proud. After Su Dongpo's official Bai Hanlin was a scholar, he served under the chancellor Wang Anshi. Wang Anshi admired his talent and valued him very much, but Su Dongpo was proud of his cleverness and often ridiculed Wang Anshi.

Wang Anshi wrote the book "Character Sayings", one word to explain a meaning, accidentally, one day said the word "slope", the slope of the hillside, Wang Anshi said: "The word 'slope' is from the soil from the skin, so the word slope is the skin of the soil." Su Dongpo teased: "According to your statement, the word 'slippery', the slippery skating of skating, is the bone of water." ”

Wang Anshi went on to say: "The word 'salamander', which is also known as the salamander character for the baby fish, is combined with the fish character; the four horses are donkeys, and the heavenly insects are silkworms. Therefore, ancient artificial characters are meaningful, not randomly created. ”

Su Dongpo bowed his hand and said, "Hongzi Nine Birds, do you always know what it means?" ”

Wang Anshi did not know that Su Dongpo was joking, and was busy asking him for advice, and Dongpo smiled and said: "Mao Shi said that Honghong was in Sang, and his son Qixi. Plus their parents, it's nine. ”

Returning to the capital three years later, Su Dongpo thought on the way back: I offended this teacher, and I don't know if he was still angry, and I had to visit him immediately when I returned. So he didn't have time to settle down with his family, so he went to find Wang Anshi.

After arriving at the palace, Su Dongpo was immediately introduced into the concierge by the small official in front of the door. The gatekeeper said, "You sit in the concierge room for a while, the old man is sleeping, and he is not awake yet!" Su Dongpo nodded and sat down.

Su Dongpo was alone and felt very bored, so he looked around and saw a neat stack of plain notes with two unfinished poems written on them, entitled "Wing Chrysanthemum".

He looked at the handwriting, recognized it as Wang Anshi's, and laughed, thinking to himself, "Shi Bei three days should be impressed." Three years ago, I saw this old man write a few thousand words without thinking; three years later, how could Jiang Lang have exhausted himself and not be able to write two poems? So he took the poem and read it again:

The west wind passed through the garden last night,

Blowing off yellow flowers full of gold.

Dongpo was thinking, "It turns out that these two poems are nonsense." Why? Because the winds of the four seasons of the year have names: spring is the Japanese wind, summer is the smoke wind, autumn is the golden wind, and winter is the Shuo wind.

The poem begins with the words "West Wind", the West is gold, and it is about autumn. However, the "yellow flower" mentioned in the second sentence is exactly, the chrysanthemum, which blooms in late autumn, can fight with the cold wind the most, and will not fall, so it is not correct to say: "Blowing off the yellow flowers full of gold".

Su Dongpo was very proud and very interested, and he couldn't help but raise his pen to dip the ink, and continued two poems according to the rhyme:

Autumn flowers are no better than spring flowers,

Speak with the poet carefully chanting.

However, he also thought: "If the teacher goes out to entertain me and sees me whitening him in person like this, I am afraid that my face will not pass." "But I have already written it, I want to hide it, and I am afraid that if Wang Anshi comes out and can't find the poem manuscript, he will definitely scold others."

After thinking about it, he came out and said to the gatekeeper, "After the teacher leaves the church, you will tell him that Su Mou has been waiting here for a long time." Only because I first arrived in the capital, there are still some things that have not been done, and I will come back tomorrow to see you. "After saying that, I quit and left.

In a moment, Wang Anshi walked out, thinking that one of his chrysanthemum poems had not yet been written, so he went straight to the concierge. After sitting down, he frowned as soon as he saw the poem and said, "Who has ever been here?" ”

The next person replied that Old Master Su of Huzhou Capital had come." Wang Anshi recognized Su Dongpo's words from his notes, did not say anything in his mouth, and muttered in his heart: "This Su Dongpo, after being degraded for three years, still does not change his frivolous nature, does not reflect on his lack of talent and dares to ridicule the old man!" Tomorrow morning, I will play the emperor and give him a post for the people. ”

But think about it for a moment: "He has never been to Huangzhou, he has never seen chrysanthemums fall there, and you can't blame him." So he carefully looked at the list of missing officials in the Huangzhou capital, where there was a lack of a regimental training deputy envoy, and the next day the emperor sent Su Dongpo to take up a post there.

Su Dongpo believes that the teacher is deliberately "declaring a personal vendetta", but the king's life is difficult to violate. The next day, Su Dongpo left Beijing, and the starry night rushed to Huangzhou.

Su Dongpo was often friends with Shu ke Chen Ji in Huangzhou, and spent his days drinking and poetry every day. On the day of the Chongyang Festival, the weather was clear, and Su Dongpo suddenly remembered: "There are many kinds of chrysanthemums in my backyard, you can go and admire it." It just so happened that Chen Ji often came to visit, and Dongpo was overjoyed, so he pulled him along to see the chrysanthemums in the back garden. When I walked to the chrysanthemum shelf, I saw that the ground was covered with gold, but there was not a single flower on the branches. Su Dongpo was very surprised and half speechless. Chen Ji often asked, "Brother Tai saw the chrysanthemum petals falling, why was he so surprised?" ”

Su Dongpo said: "Ji Chang does not know, usually this flower will not fall. Last year, when I was in Wang Cheng Xiang's mansion, I saw his poem "Wing Ju" and wrote: "The west wind passed through the garden last night, blowing down yellow flowers full of gold." I thought the teacher had written it wrong, so I continued to write 'Autumn flowers are no better than spring flowers, saying that the poet chanted carefully'. But I didn't know that the chrysanthemums in Huangzhou really fell petals! The old man degraded me to Huangzhou to teach me to understand the truth! ”

Su Dongpo sighed and said, "When I was first degraded, I only thought that it was Wang Chengxiang who declared a personal vendetta, who knew that he was not at fault, but in fact I was wrong." In the future, I will be humble and cautious, and I will not make fun of others at will. Alas, it is really a matter of not going through a thing, not adding a wisdom! ”

After that, Su Dongpo specially asked Wang Anshi for the crime of "bearing the guilt of Jing" and apologized for admitting his mistake, and Wang Anshi transferred Su Dongpo back to Beijing again and entrusted him with a heavy responsibility.
