The plaque of the former residence was inscribed by Comrade Deng Xiaoping himself

Mr. Mei's former residence, located at No. 9 Huguosi Street, is a typical Beijing courtyard, which was originally the stables of prince Yi Wangfu of Qing in the late Qing Dynasty, and was later renovated into a residence, covering an area of more than 700 square meters. Since 1951, Mei Lanfang has spent the last decade of his life here.

As soon as I entered the gate of the small courtyard, I saw the statue of Mei Lanfang standing in front of me

On the marble pedestal, the gilded characters read "Mei Lanfang (1894-1961)", as if the master's voice was like awe-inspiring.

A quiet, comfortable courtyard

Mei Lanfang's former residence is also the home of Cheng Diyi in the movie "Farewell to the Overlord", where the footage of Butterfly's quarrel with XiaoSi and Butterfly's burning costumes were filmed here.

There are two persimmon trees planted in the courtyard, which means "everything is safe", and there are two begonia trees, which mean "blessings like the East Sea"

A wooden wall is set up at the entrance to the front yard

In Chinese feng shui, zhaobi was originally designed to ward off evil spirits and avoid pedestrians from seeing the courtyard directly, but this wall is very different from the brick and tile color wall I have seen before, it is a thick black line of Chinese red color in decoration, reminiscent of the stage decoration of Peking Opera or the line of Peking Opera face. Bypassing this red wall, walking into the courtyard, but seeing the flowers and trees, quiet and elegant, people feel that a strong Beijing rhyme pervades it.

Behind the wall is this white jade fish pond, and the relief of four small stone lions in the corner of the pond is very exquisite and vivid. There are also four small stone pillars of White Jade used as flower racks, which are full of reliefs, which are said to have been picked up by Mr. Mei from the Yuanmingyuan, so it is no wonder that it is very delicate.
