Morphologically, climbing birds are very small, with a body length of 9 to 10 cm. The mouth is pointed and slightly stout, grayish black. The forehead is brown, gradually transitioning to olive green at the back of the neck. The eyebrow stripes are white, the eye stripes are dark brown, and there is a white stripe underneath them, all of which extend downward to the neck. Back and wing olive green. The underparts are white , the throat is dark , and the thorax and flanks are covered with black brown circular spots that gradually transition downwards into transverse stripes. The tail is short, predominantly black, with a central and outermost white. The feet are also two toes forward, two toes backwards, gray.
Its habitat is mountainous woodlands, especially bamboo forests, sparse forests and forest edge shrublands. It is often alone, mostly feeding on branches or to the ground, and will knock on bamboo or branches to feed on insects in them. The breeding season is from April to July, and the nest is in the tree hole. Rare resident birds. It is found only in the Taishan Low Mountain Belt and the Zhongshan Belt.
Conservation status IUCN:LC; national protection of terrestrial wildlife of important ecological, scientific and social value.
