According to reports, in 2020, Chongqing's ozone exceeded the standard for 20 days, accounting for 60.1% of the total number of days exceeding the standard (33 days), and strengthening the coordinated control of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone (O3) has become the key to continuous improvement of air quality.

In 2021, Chongqing's main air pollution prevention and control measures totaled 48 articles in 5 categories and more than 2,000 items.
In terms of deepening industrial pollution control, 337 volatile organic compounds treatment, more than 22,000 gas-related small and medium-sized and micro enterprises have been comprehensively rectified, 600 enterprises have consolidated the effectiveness of VOCs governance, promoted the replacement of volatile organic compounds and low volatile raw materials in industrial coating, chemical, packaging and printing industries, completed the in-depth treatment of 15 enterprises such as cement, glass, and waste incineration power generation and ultra-low emission transformation of coal-fired power plants, and completed the transformation of boiler clean energy and 185 low-nitrogen combustion transformations. In terms of deepening traffic pollution control, 38,000 old cars have been eliminated and replaced, 190,000 road inspection vehicles, 10 million telemetry motor vehicles, 1,800 non-road mobile machinery, 26 oil storage depots and 320 gas stations have been completed, 10,000 new energy vehicles such as pure electric vehicles have been promoted, and 6,000 new charging piles have been built.
In terms of deepening the control of dust pollution, 430 demonstration sites and 430 demonstration roads for dust control have been created (consolidated), covering or greening more than 2 million square meters of bare soil, adding 15 million square meters of urban green space, and further improving the classification and control system of "red, yellow and green" signs at construction sites.
In terms of deepening the control of domestic pollution, highlight key measures such as oil smoke remediation in the catering industry, construction of high-pollution fuel ban zones, prohibition of open burning, prohibition of fireworks and firecrackers, control of volatile organic compounds in daily life, and energy conservation in buildings. Consolidate the results of more than 11,000 catering fume control, sample 1,260 catering fumes, add 19 square kilometers of high-polluting fuel ban areas, and complete the energy-saving renovation of public buildings of 300,000 square meters。
In terms of improving pollution response capabilities, key measures such as air quality forecasting and early warning, regional joint prevention and control, staggered peak production of cement and brick and tile enterprises, artificial rain increase, pollution response encryption monitoring, atmospheric environment scientific research and big data application are highlighted. Carried out 1,000 law enforcement monitoring and issued no less than 30,000 ozone pollution control notices. For polluting enterprises to send technology, plans, and policies, give play to the effect of special funds at the central and municipal levels, and implement the five measures to benefit enterprises.
