Stralsund is a coastal city in the northeastern German state of Mecklenburg-former Pomerania. Founded in 1234, this small town on the shores of the Baltic Sea has survived the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) and the bombardment of World War II, but fortunately it has been well restored and preserved after the war, and the medieval-style blocks and buildings have been preserved and rebuilt to this day. Together with the old town of Wismar, another small seaside town in Meyzen State, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2002.
