April 8 is International Rare Animal Conservation Day. Today, the reporter also looked at the newly adjusted "List of Wild Animals under National Key Protection" (hereinafter referred to as the "List") jointly released by the State Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs not long ago, and found that many of the animals whose protection level has been promoted have the surname of "Sichuan" or the place name in Sichuan.
These animals have the surname "Chuan"
1. Sichuan Forest Owl (xiāo) (second level to first level)

Sichuan Forest Owl (Source: Wetland Friends Network)
Owl, commonly known as owl. The forest owl is an owl that lives in the forest. The Sichuan forest owl is the only bird of prey that lives only in China. The Sichuan forest owl is slightly larger than the long-tailed forest owl, with a black and slightly white striped back, and is a nocturnal raptor in alpine alpine areas, but it is by no means a "night owl" every day, and it can sometimes be seen in the forest clearing or forest edge area during the day.
2. Chuan-Shaan Zhe Luo Salmon (guī) (second level promoted to first level)
Sichuan-Shaanxi Zheluo salmon belongs to the large salmon family unique to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and is also the only large indigenous salmonid in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau region. Meat, weighing up to 70 to 80 pounds, is known as the "tiger in the water". Historically, the upper reaches of the Min River and the Dadu River system were the main concentrated distribution areas of Sichuan-Shaanxi Zheluo salmon, which is now difficult to see. In October last year, Sichuan released 60 Tails of Shaanxi Zheluo salmon for the first time in the Tuozituo Reservoir District of Zhongba Village, Baosheng Township, Lushan County, Ya'an.
3. Sichuan hot spring snake (airborne level outside the compilation)

The Sichuan hot spring snake is a new species that was separated from the hot spring snake in 2008 and based on specimens from Litang County. Mild and non-venomous, it is one of the highest-lying snakes in the world, endemic to China. Distributed in the eastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the western Sichuan Plateau, in order to adapt to the extreme day and night temperature difference of the plateau and the cold winter of long snowfall, the hot spring snake chose the rich hot spring geothermal resources of the plateau as a protective umbrella against the cold, hence the name.
4. Puxiong original salamander (airborne level outside the compilation)
The original Salamander is distributed in the Puxiong area of Yuexi County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan. It is a photophobic animal, and adult and sub-adults are mainly hidden in stone crevices, stone caves and tree root holes around waterholes, as well as in moist areas around swamps. Adults were observed on land, hidden 2 to 3 meters from the water source. Juveniles mostly hide under dead branches, fallen leaves and stones in immersion ditches or small waterholes, and mostly forage and move in the water.
5. Sichuan Spiny Wood Sparrow (Airborne Level II)

Sichuan spiny wood finch, is the second bird species discovered and independently named by Chinese ornithologists, only distributed in a very small number of alpine primary forests such as Sichuan and Shaanxi, because of its habit of spiraling up the trunk of the tree, commonly known as "tree climbing bird". As another "forest doctor", unlike the "precision-guided" feeding method of woodpeckers, the Sichuan spiny wood sparrow launches a "carpet" search.
6. Batang Dragon Lizard (Airborne Level II)
Batang dragon lizard, also known as Batang climbing lizard, is similar to the grass green climbing lizard, but has significant differences with the latter: there are developed small cavities under the neck side folds, the body back has 7-9 continuous or discontinuous horizontal stripes, the male has a gray-white longitudinal stripe on both sides of the back, and the large ridge scales on the body side are mostly white, distributed in Batang, Sichuan and other places.
7. Cool North Tooth Toad (Outer Airborne Secondary)
Liangbei toothed toad, only found in the Puxiong area of Daliangshan, Sichuan, lives in the coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest belt mountains at an altitude of 2850-3000 meters, is a horned toad, tooth toad amphibians, pupil longitudinal, tympanic membrane hidden, maxillary teeth developed. The back of the body is covered with large and large warts. The hind limbs are shorter , dark yellow or slightly brown on the back of the body , dark spots on the warts , and spines on the back of the upper arms of males.
There are also golden-crowned toothed toads, Nine Dragon tooth toads, Muli tooth toads, Pingwu tooth toads, Emei (zī) toads and so on.
According to Ran Jianghong, professor at the School of Life Sciences of Sichuan University and president of the Sichuan Wildlife Conservation Association, the naming of wild animals generally refers to the earliest place of discovery, that is, the place of origin of the type specimen. However, there are also type specimens without place names that originate in Sichuan, such as giant pandas.
These "star" animals are also active in Sichuan
The reporter noted that among the animals promoted to the protection level of the new "List", there are also some "star" animals that are not surnamed "Chuan" but are distributed in Sichuan. Like what:
1. Desert Cat (level 2 promoted to level 1)

The desert cat is the closest relative of domestic cats, and is the only special cat in China, living in Mongolia, Shaanxi, Sichuan and other places. Desert cats are larger than domestic cats, with a long tail, slightly longer limbs, and a pinch of short hairs at the ends of the ears. They brave the harshness of the climate and live in deserts, forest edges, alpine scrub and alpine meadows. Desert cats mainly prey on some small animals, and have appeared in Ruoerge Wetland and Xinlong County, Zizhou.
2. Blue-headed diving duck (airborne level outside the staff)

Wearing a blue hat and large round eyes, the blue-headed diving duck breeds mainly in Siberia and northeastern China, and is listed as a critically endangered species by the IUCN, with fewer than 1,000 remaining worldwide. It migrates from north to south from mid-October to early November each year in search of warm wintering grounds. Since 2013, bird watchers have observed the overwintering traces of blue-headed diving ducks in the Chengdu Plain for many years, indicating that it has become a relatively stable and extremely small group of wintering in the Chengdu Plain. In February this year, it appeared in Panzhihua.
3. Thrush (airborne level 2)
Inhabiting the hills of shrubland and in the bushes or bamboo forests near villages, thrushes are alert and timid, often foraging in the grass under the forest, and are not good at flying long distances. During the breeding period, the male birds often hide alone among the weeds and branches, and are very good at chirping, the sound is very loud, the song is melodious and gentle, very beautiful, and it is a famous cage bird. Can it be farmed as a protected animal? The lawyer suggests that the farmer retain the evidence of the culture that has been farmed before the adjustment of the list, and promptly contact the competent authority to confirm how to deal with it.
