In the early summer mornings of Kamakura, the kaeda sisters receive an obituary of the death of their father, who abandoned them. Despite their grievances, Kaeda, Kana, and Chika attend their father's funeral. There they meet their half-sister Suzu Asano. "Would you like to live with us?" In the face of the invitation of the sisters, Suzu did not hesitate in the slightest, and a whole new family was born.
- Sea Street Diary -
It is Kore-eda's film "The Diary of Sea Street" that focuses on the four half-sister families, and presents the beauty of the four seasons of Kamakura in Japan with a warm family poem, vividly and fully presented to the audience.
The film, which was screened at the 7th Beijing International Film Festival, will be reunited at the 10th Beijing International Film Festival Online Film Festival, which will be held from August 21 to September 22.
- Four Seasons of Kamakura -
On December 24, 2014, the final scene of "Sea Street Diaries" was filmed in Kyoto, and it was Kore-eda and Suzu Hirose, who played Suzu Asano, who reported that he was safe on social media, announcing that the film, which had been filmed in many places, had been completed after a year. "The beauty of the four seasons in Kamakura is in the hub", Akio Yoshida, the original manga author of "The Sea Street Diary", lamented from the bottom of the rough cut, following "Nobody Knows", it is Kore-eda who has once again been extremely patient to present the changes of the four seasons of the year in the same movie.
Although the film was also filmed in Yamagata and Kyoto, it was shot mostly in Kamakura. The filming of this film went through four stages. Spring is selected between April 7 and 8 of the cherry blossom season; The Hydrangea Plum Rain article was selected on June 16 and 23; From July 29 to September 8, the main story of the reunion of four sisters was filmed at a house in Kamakura for a total of six weeks; Finally, there is the final chapter of the winter of autumn leaves and dead wood. Kore-eda carefully selected some of Japan's most distinctive time slots and recorded the most beautiful scenery in the area with a video camera — from the cherry blossom season to the fireworks display, from the hydrangeas in Kamakura to the autumn leaves in Kyoto.
The title of the film is "Sea Street Diary", as the name suggests, the place where the four sisters live is located near the sea, on the shores of Shonan, where Kamakura is famous. It is home not only to Sakuragi Hanamichi's basketball dreams and Hideyoshi Onizuka's youthful madness (the filming location for "Slam Dunk Master" and "Shonan Pure Love"), but also to the beauty of many landmarks that can almost serve as a business card for Japanese tourism.
After Suzu Asano moved to live with his sisters, he often played around Sea Street with his friends. For example, in the Momiji Valley near Seosen-ji Temple, you can enjoy the beauty of maple leaves in the Kanto region without going to Kyoto, and Kosuzu and his friends From the new school, Wind Tai and Shoji, can pass through this place to reach the "Lion Dance", a sacred place for maple viewing. Everything here is so new to Kosuzu, a transfer student, that Kazeta often guides her and tells her about history she doesn't know: Kamakura Palace is a shrine dedicated to the tragic prince Gora, who was captured by his political enemy Ashikaga and later killed. Kazetai often watches Noh dramas at Kamakura Palace, also known as the Great Tower Palace.
Then look at sasuke Inari Shrine, located in the axisymmetric orientation of Kamakura Palace, where the gods who make Gense Dynasty determined to fight against the Heike family are enshrined, chika and Kosuzu witness Kano dating her boyfriend Tomoaki, and in addition to the shrine, the clever Chika also meets her second sister and Tomoaki at Hase station. Inamurazaki, not far from Hase station, is Kana's sad place, where Tomoaki decides to break up with her, but Kana can't get it back. The surf shop where Tomoki works is also located in Inamurasaki, where the Cape Observatory can look at Mt. Fuji and Enoshima at the same time – the former needless to say, the latter is also Kamakura's most famous attraction besides the ancient temple, and many movies have been filmed on Enoshima.
"It's a very moving story, and every character in the original is so full that it makes me feel very difficult to restore them to the big screen one by one." This beautiful and vibrant city, and the beautiful people who live there, are sustained by family affection and familial love, so I wanted to associate this kind of character, kinship with the city, which was my original intention in making this film. In the middle of the summer of 2014, it was Kore-eda who talked to reporters who came to collect materials at Kek Lok-ji Temple. The film's framing brings out his unique aesthetic to the fullest, becoming another turning point in his directing career.
Before Kore-eda made "Nobody Knows", he gave the impression of a slow film director who was good at using the perspective of a documentary, and although he occasionally had the amazing handwriting of Lake Guangjing in "Distance", most of the time he still aimed the perspective at people. "Nobody Knows" not only won the best actor in Cannes, Yumi Yanagi, the film shot according to the four seasons is not only narrative neat, but also weakens the film itself with beautiful scenery. More than a decade has passed since the release of "Nobody Knows", and it is Kore-eda who once again spent a year filming the beautiful "Sea Street Diary", and also integrated his best family themes to dedicate another chapter of healing warmth.
"Sea Street Diary" takes the Japanese aesthetic to the extreme, and the beauty of the four seasons in Kamakura reveals a hint of warmth behind it.
