Recently, with the help of DNA technology, the Shenyang Railway Police successfully cracked a backlog with a well-preserved bodily fluid, and the murder suspect who had absconded for 26 years was finally arrested. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the application of forensic DNA technology in China, and so far, DNA testing technology has cracked more than 200,000 cases of various types. How does DNA technology help the police to show their grievances and become a weapon to solve the case?

After 26 years of absconding, he was finally arrested

In late January this year, Shenyang railway police arrested Yang Moubin, a murder suspect, in a community in Shenyang city. For this day, the police searched for 26 years.

Yuan Ye, deputy head of the criminal police detachment of the Shenyang Railway Public Security Bureau, said: "On January 21, 1995, the police found that the passenger secretary of Anshan Station had been killed during the night shift the day before. Victims show signs of fighting and have been violated. We found bodily fluids of the suspected suspect in the victim's body. ”

The Shenyang Railway Police immediately set up a special team to investigate the case. However, at that time, the Anshan Railway Station was still under construction, not fully delivered, the monitoring equipment had not yet been installed, and the scene had been deliberately cleaned, and the police could not obtain more valuable information from the scene for a while.

DNA technology has made a big difference

At the beginning of this year, the case finally ushered in a turnaround.

Yuan Ye: "Thanks to the latest forensic science technology, we have re-identified the bodily fluids of criminal suspects extracted from the crime scene that year. Through a new step of identification, we found that the bodily fluids of the criminal suspect left in the victim's body at the scene of the crime were very similar to the DNA of the male members of the Yili family in Liaoyang Beacon City. ”

The police immediately launched an investigation, but the results were disappointing, and after screening the male members of the Li family, it was found that there were no criminal suspects who met the conditions for committing the crime that year. But the Shenyang Railway Police did not give up, but launched a more detailed investigation.

Yuan Ye: "We immediately sorted out the family members in more detail, and found that Li Mouqing in this Li family actually remarried with his mother, and we then touched his three half-brothers surnamed Yang. Through the platoon, Li Mouqing's eldest brother Yang Moufan's eldest son Yang Moubin was suspected of committing a major crime. ”

The police investigation found that Yang Moubin, 51 years old, lives in Yuhong District, Shenyang City, usually makes a living from decoration and part-time work, and his WeChat name is Meng'en 1995. After seeing this name, the police were more certain that he was the suspect of the Anshan Railway Station, because the time of the crime was 1995.

Yuan Ye: "We secretly collected Yang Moubin's DNA, compared the DNA of Yang Moubin with the bodily fluids left by the suspect in the victim's body at the crime scene that year, and after comparing with us, we found that it was completely consistent, and it was initially determined that Yang Moubin was the suspect in the 1995 Anshan Railway Station rape and murder case." ”

The police immediately squatted and interrogated Yang Moubin, and after several rounds of competition, Yang Moubin finally confessed to the crime of killing people at Anshan Railway Station that year.

26 years ago, 25-year-old Yang Moubin ran away from home because of a family trifle, had a dispute with his parents, took a train from Liaoyang to Anshan, got off the train and entered the passenger duty room where the victim was resting, stole it, woke up the victim and strangled him, and raped the body, cleaned the scene and hid the victim in a very hidden corner of the passenger duty room, took away the valuables at the scene, and fled the scene. After 26 years, modern DNA technology has finally brought criminal suspects to justice.

DNA technology has been instrumental

In June 2020, through DNA comparison, Yan Mouchao and Zhao Mouzhou, suspects in the 21-year unsolved murder case, were arrested by the police in Anyang City, Henan Province.

In 2020, through DNA comparison, a murder case spanning 23 years, occurred in a township of Haidong Citizen and Hui Turk Autonomous County in Qinghai Province.

On March 25, 2021, through DNA comparison, Wang Mou from Guiyang found his son who had been lost for 26 years.

There are many more cases that rely on DNA technology...

New technologies assist in the detection of unsolved cases

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the application of forensic DNA technology in China. Since 2020, the number of major and unsolved cases that have been solved for a long time using new technologies has reached 70% of the total number of solved cases. China's current homicide solving rate has reached 99.8%, which is at the first-class level in the world.

The achievements in the construction of scientific and technological means have become a multiplier of the core combat effectiveness of public security organs. With the acceleration of the construction and application of scientific and technological means, the level of public security organs' ability to investigate and solve cases will also be continuously improved, giving the people a full sense of security!
