"Shuidong Street holds the dream of childhood, and Shuidong Street crosses the wind of the Ming and Qing dynasties..." At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, the choir sang on the second floor of the Huizhou City Cultural Center in Jiangbei, Huicheng District. Male and female voices, sometimes singing high, sometimes singing and chanting, tell the beauty of Shuidong Street.
This is the weekly rehearsal agreed by the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir. Since April this year, three music groups have been established, namely the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir, the Huizhou Philharmonic Children's Choir and the Huizhou Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
With their love and reverence for music, they gathered together to compose new musical dreams on a new platform, and successively emerged in municipal and provincial competitions, and also replenished the city's cultural energy and helped Huizhou build a more humanistic cultural city.

The youth orchestra debut won the provincial gold medal
At the beginning of October, in the 5th String Competition of Guangdong Province and the 18th Children's Violin Performance Competition of Guangdong Province, the Huizhou Philharmonic Youth Orchestra stood out and won the gold medal among many outstanding orchestras in the province with the interpretation of two works, "Red Star Song" and "Char Dash Dance Music".
This is the first time since the establishment of the Huizhou Philharmonic Youth Orchestra to participate in the name of the orchestra, which can be described as a "hit and red".
From the beginning of its establishment to the official competition, the members of the various voice departments of the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra actively participated in rehearsals in weekend evenings and summers in addition to the intense main course study, and practiced the participating scores in the shortest possible time. Before the competition, the Municipal Cultural Center specially invited experts from the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra to give technical guidance to the orchestra.
Music has a natural appeal and cohesion, the members of the orchestra to help each other, from the pitch, rhythm, musical expression and other aspects of the intensified practice, improve the playing skills, overcome difficulties, in the competition to fully show the artistic style of Huizhou youth.
Zhang Enpeng, secretary general of the Huizhou Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, introduced that the orchestra was established in May this year, and there are more than 40 members, their ages are between 6-16 years old, and they are currently mainly engaged in youth string music. These young musicians are among the best of their peers in terms of musical standards, and most of them have more than two years of instrumental learning history. The orchestra invited Wang Lin, the viola art director of the Huizhou Symphony Orchestra, as the head of the orchestra, responsible for daily rehearsals and art direction.
In the daily rehearsal, Wang Lin provides multi-dimensional training in performance technology and stage experience according to the different instrumental music masters of the students, such as part-time rehearsal and sub-professional rehearsal. The rehearsal repertoire selects Chinese and foreign works suitable for the classical music school, romantic music school and classical film and television music suitable for the student orchestra.
Lin Bowei, director of the Huizhou Municipal Cultural Center, told reporters that the orchestra hopes to make up for the gap between professionalism and hobbies by gathering the best quality teachers in Huizhou, and provide more platforms for children learning string music in Huizhou to improve their skills and cultivate the spirit of unity and cooperation, so that they can step onto a broader stage and approach their dreams step by step.
The choir gathers the backbone of literature and art
On May 11, the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir ushered in the debut of the competition - Huizhou City's 2021 "100 Songs in Praise of China" mass singing activity. Huizhou Philharmonic Choir's performance of "The Motherland Will Not Forget" won the gold medal of this choral competition with the highest score in the whole field.
From the first rehearsal on April 13 to the official competition only 27 days apart, due to the tight time and heavy tasks, the team members overcame many difficulties such as daily heavy work, took advantage of the evening break and the May Day holiday to actively participate in rehearsals, and took the initiative to practice.
Before the competition, Professor Wang Jun, the conductor, and the piano accompaniment teacher Ji Fan repeatedly communicated with the resident conductors about the details of the song processing and guided every detail of the singing. In the end, everyone adhered to the love and affection for the chorus, and did not slacken off to prepare for the competition, and made a stunning appearance during the competition.
Zheng Ziyu, secretary general of the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir, said that the choir was established in April 2021, and after three rounds of assessment, it has currently absorbed 73 philharmonic people aged 20-40, who are outstanding vocal young talents from all walks of life in Huizhou City and young lovers with a certain vocal singing foundation.
Professor Wang Jun, a national first-class conductor and vice president of the Guangdong Choral Association, was invited to serve as the guest conductor and artistic consultant of the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir, while the outstanding choral conductor team of Huizhou City is responsible for daily rehearsal and counseling, and plans to provide at least 1-2 master classes and multiple performance opportunities for the members every year.
"The Philharmonic Choir has gathered the most backbone choral forces in Huizhou, and after receiving professional guidance and promotion from experts, they can not only go out to participate in the competition on behalf of Huizhou, but also return to the grassroots to popularize choral art and excavate and cultivate more choral talents for Huizhou." Zheng Ziyu said.
Talent training starts from the doll. In June this year, Huizhou also created a choral enlightenment class - Huizhou Philharmonic Children's Choir, recruiting 52 teenagers aged 7-15 in the city, tapping more children with musical talent, providing enlightenment education for interested Philharmonic children, and promoting more professional choral concepts and choral art among teenagers.
Because the members of the group have a weak foundation for choral singing, everyone is still in the early stage of sound running-in and choral training and learning, and strive to go out to participate in competitions next summer to test the training results.
Three groups will join forces to interpret the beauty of the city
"The streets and alleys of the city have been illuminated, the joy of the community is warm and flowing, the flames of the villages in the distant mountains are flickering, and the thinking of gradually brightening the well-off..." During the National Day holiday, a song "China in the Lights" brushed the screen in the WeChat circle of friends, allowing more people to know the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir.
This is a song that became popular after the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV this year, from the lights and shadows of the city streets and alleys to the brilliant Chinese dream. Inspired by the theme of the colorful night scene of Huizhou, the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir specially filmed and produced the MV of Huizhou version of "China in the Lights".
The melodious chorus and the brilliant night scenery are intertwined, comparable to the Huizhou tourism promotional film, which shows the romance and comfort of the city and hits the hearts of countless Huizhou people, and the MV is currently viewed by more than 100,000 people on various platforms.
Every city with a certain level of economic development and population size should have a choir that suits its urban personality. As part of the soft power of urban culture, they are also shaping and promoting the image of the city internally and externally.
Wang Jun believes that choral art is an art category that is particularly worthy of promotion and high recognition by the masses, and can play a role in "leading the face with points", so that the musical atmosphere in Huizhou can be comprehensively improved.
Lin Bowei said that the establishment of the Philharmonic Choir is another powerful measure to further promote the popularization of art among the whole people in Huizhou, and Huizhou will take the choir as a cultural position to drive more literary and artistic talents who love music and chorus.
Holding choral concerts, singing excellent local music works, and participating in competitions at or above the provincial level are the best ways for city choirs to show their individuality and enhance their influence.
Fang Dedi, director of the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir, said that in mid-January next year, the "Huizhou Philharmonic" will hold a choral New Year concert, when three philharmonic groups will make a concentrated appearance and sing Huizhou's original music work "Water East Street". The work is cleverly integrated into the local dialect of Huizhou, and for the first time, the story of Huizhou is told with a chorus. In the future, the Philharmonic Choir plans to hold 1-2 choral concerts per year, and hire more experts to compose music and provide professional guidance for Huizhou.
A special concert by the Huizhou Philharmonic Youth Orchestra is also in preparation. Wang Lin introduced that next summer, the Huizhou Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will create a Miyazaki animation theme concert, the performance repertoire is being rehearsed, and plans to carry out a public welfare tour in the county and district, so that more citizens can feel the unique charm of string art.
Fang Dedi especially mentioned that in order to highlight the characteristics of Huizhou, the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir will create more huizhou original songs, integrating cultural landmarks such as Huizhou Zhuwu Lane, Dongpo Ancestral Hall, and Hanging List Pavilion, so that Huizhou cultural elements will become smart notes in the chorus. The choir will also tailor a choral MV with Huizhou characteristics on major holidays, combined with current affairs hotspots, and sing the strong tone of the times.
In terms of competitions, the Huizhou Philharmonic Choir strives to participate in the 16th China International Choir Festival in Beijing next July, which is the only international choral competition held in China.
Create a "City of Music" to empower development
Huizhou music has a deep accumulation, about 2500 years ago, 7 bronze chimes from the Spring and Autumn Period witnessed the ancient music history of Huizhou. In modern times, liao shangguo (pen name Qingzuo), Liao Fushu and Chen Zi, the "three masters of Huizhou music", have become important figures in the field of modern Chinese musicology.
The movements played by the city and music are now more and more beautiful - the "Qingju Cup" music works competition named after Liao Shangguo has become a resounding music brand in Huizhou, the Huizhou Symphony Orchestra has carried out literary and artistic creation in the mode of government-school-enterprise cooperation, and the first large-scale original symphonic poetry painting "Ode to the Red Dongjiang River" in Huizhou has set a new benchmark for Huizhou literature and art...
Music carries the memory of the city and also injects artistic vitality into urban life. In the future, how will Huizhou build a "City of Music", so that music can represent the image of the city and empower urban development?
Professor Yang Xiao, vice chairman of the Guangdong Musicians Association and a famous composer, believes that Huizhou has a rich cultural history, rich cultural resources such as Huidong fishing songs and Hakka mountain songs, and has great potential for development in the music industry.
It is worth looking forward to that Huizhou will create a large-scale fishing song musical "Fisherman", hold a "Huizhou Music Three Masters" art achievement seminar and classic works concert, integrate the "Huizhou Music Three Masters" elements to enhance and transform the Municipal Cultural Center, and plan to build a modern music square, modern music exhibition hall and other facilities.
In view of the transformation of Huizhou Cultural Center, Lin Bowei introduced that the museum plans to build a Qingju Music Theme Pavilion, covering the "Huizhou Music Sanjie" display area, digital cinema, music book bar, small theater, brainstorming room and other functional rooms, and plans to establish a "Qingjue Cup" music works resource library, the award-winning music works of the previous "Qingjue Cup" into the music library, through the form of digital experience space, to create a cultural space for music lovers to communicate and entertain.
