A big guy posted a positive comparison of the two ships on Weibo, half jokingly and half seriously asking everyone, "Don't explain, which of these two ships do you think is stronger?" ”

After all, compared to the Type 055, which uses a low-detectability design and most of the tactical missiles are carried using a universal vertical launch system, the 8 sets of twin CM-248 missile launch systems of the Varyag on both sides of the hull are too conspicuous, and each launch box can carry a powerful P-500 "basalt" or P-1000 "volcano" campaign-class anti-ship missile, which was called an "aircraft carrier nightmare" during the Cold War.
Comparison of Type 055 and Class 1164
Of course, if from the perspective of 2021, for most military fans who have a slight understanding of the performance of the Navy's main battle equipment, the Type 055 large destroyer and the Type 1164 "Glory" class cruiser are "which is stronger", this conclusion is not difficult to find:
In terms of overall design, in fact, the hull design of type 055 and type 1164 is relatively similar, in terms of type 1164, its hull length is about 186 meters, the maximum width is 21 meters, the full load draft depth is 6.2 meters, the normal displacement of the whole ship is more than 9000 tons, and the full load displacement is about 11000 tons. In contrast, although the Type 055 large destroyer does not have data such as hull size, considering that the Chinese Navy calls it a "10,000-ton large drive", and considering that the displacement data of the Chinese Navy is generally based on normal displacement, it is estimated that the hull of the Type 055 destroyer is slightly larger than that of the Type 1164, with a slightly higher tonnage, but it still belongs to the same class.
However, the technical performance of the Type 1164 can be compared with the 055 large destroyer, and it will probably end here, after all, the next comparison, the Type 1164 is "all disadvantages":
Critical marine electrical systems
The first is the key ship electrical system, we have introduced before, the 1164 type of ship electrical system includes two parts of the three-coordinate long-range warning radar responsible for far and near air situational awareness, namely mp-710 "warship bird-M" located on the main mast and MP-800 "flag" installed on the rear mast, both of which use the traditional rotary machine sweeping work mode.
Among them, the latter is an L-band long-range warning radar, the interception distance of large combat aircraft is about 400 kilometers, but the interception distance of fighter targets is only more than 200 kilometers, which can trace 64 targets at the same time; the former is an S-band medium-range warning radar, the interception distance of large combat aircraft is about 200 kilometers, but the interception distance of fighter targets is only more than 100 kilometers, and the tracking and tracing ability of targets is basically similar to that of MP-800. These two systems were still advanced in the 1970s, but in the 21st century, both the technical architecture and technical performance have lagged far behind.
After all, the ship-electric system of the Type 055 large destroyer, I believe that everyone no longer needs to let the big Ivan Kop, it uses a set of highly integrated integrated radio frequency system and dual-band radar system, respectively, three active phased array radars of different bands are responsible for far and near air situational awareness, in addition to the installation of integrated Satcom, naval tactical data links and integrated electronic countermeasures system.
In addition, from the appearance of the Type 055 destroyer, it is not excluded that its electronic countermeasure system may have a long baseline interferometry capability, which can accurately locate and intelligently analyze the detected electromagnetic radiation signal, not only can the reactive strategy be selected in a targeted manner, but also the location of the electromagnetic interference source can be calibrated in reverse, thus "will" the opponent in turn. Undoubtedly, the advanced degree of this system is not at all comparable to that of the old system of the "glorious" level.
Critical armament systems
The second is the more critical armament system, judging from the armament system of the Type 1164 cruiser, it is equipped with a complete set of naval and air defense combat weapon systems:
In the sea-making combat weapon system, the main combat weapons of the Type 1164 include 8 groups of CM-248 anti-ship missile launch boxes on both sides of the hull, which can carry 16 campaign-class anti-ship missiles, and at the same time, the P-1000 anti-ship missile can also achieve an over-the-horizon attack on targets hundreds of kilometers away according to the target information transmitted by the Soviet "myth" system; in addition, the Type 1164 is also equipped with an AK-130 twin ship gun, which can be used for close engagement within the visual range.
In the air defense combat weapon system, the main combat weapons of the Type 1164 include 8 groups of 64-unit B-204 vertical launch systems in the rear of the hull, which is the launch box of the famous S-300F "Reef" system, which can carry a total of 64 5V55 or 48N6 medium- and long-range ship-to-air missiles, guided by the 3R41 "cover" fire control radar located on the rear bridge.
However, on the one hand, limited by the launch capability of the B-204 vertical launch system, on the other hand, limited by the guidance capability of the 3R41 radar and the guidance system of the 5V55/48N6 missile, the multi-target engagement capability of the Type 1164 in long-range regional air defense is actually limited;
At the same time, the 1164 type also installed two 4K33 type short-range point air defense system launchers, usually two launchers are stored in the cabin on both sides of the hangar, and then raised to the deck platform when necessary, but due to the problem of the guidance system, each launcher can only deal with one target located on the side of the hull at a time;
Finally, the Type 1164 also has 6 AK-630M 30 mm secondary guns on the front bridge and on both sides of the bridge, which can undertake short-range point air defense tasks, but because this close defense weapon system is optimized for attacking tactical aircraft, the anti-ship missiles that appeared after the eighties are not effective, and the Russian army does not seem to plan to replace them for so many years.
The armament system of the Type 055 large destroyer is somewhat similar to that of the Type 1164, and it seems that only the main gun caliber of the two ships is 130 mm. Even so, the H/PJ-45A 130 mm naval gun equipped with the Type 055 large destroyer is far from the performance of the AK-130, which is far from the AK-130's Cold War old. Not to mention, as the 055 main battle equipment 112 universal vertical launch units, the number and performance of air defense, anti-ship, anti-submarine, and land attack tactical missiles carried by it have left the Type 1164 far behind. Even as a close-in weapon system for the Type 055 large destroyer, the close-in defense system consisting of the HQ-10A point air defense missile and the H/PJ-11 30 mm secondary gun has far exceeded the multi-target engagement capability of the Type 1164 cruiser.
So in general, if the weapon system of the Type 1164 cruiser is basically the level of the second and third generation of large surface warships after the war, then the weapon system of the Type 055 destroyer is basically the level of the third and a half generations, or even the fourth generation.
The fate of the navy is the fate of the country
As for this, I believe that everyone has to say that there is no need to continue to compare, after all, from the comparison of ship electricity and armament systems alone, the difference between the Type 1164 cruiser and the 055 large destroyer is not a star and a half. Not to mention that the Type 055 is still continuing to improve, and I don't know how many surprises we will have to give in the future, and the youngest ship of the Type 1164 is also 30 years old, and the Russian Navy has been "only seeing the stairs ringing, not seeing people coming down" despite saying that it will implement improvements to them.
However, Ivan the Great has to say that although the 1164 cruiser is more crotch-pulling, let's not forget that it is a ship type from the 1970s! The Type 1164 "Glory" class cruiser, the Type 1155 "Dreadnought" class anti-submarine ship, the Type 1144 "Kirov" class nuclear-powered cruiser, including the "old friend of the Chinese" Type 956 "Modern" class destroyer, are all based on the "Naval Development Plan" formulated by the commander of the Soviet Red Navy in 1969, which requires strengthening the fleet's ocean service capabilities and building large combat ships to enhance surface warfare capabilities.
We think that in 1969, the Chinese Navy was still in a situation, and the few large combat ships in the Navy were still Type 6601 frigates (imitating the Soviet "Riga" class frigates), in addition to the only four "Outpost" class destroyers purchased from the Soviet Union in the 1950s (that is, the famous "Four King Kongs of the Navy"). As a domestically produced first-generation destroyer, the first ship of the Type 65 gun frigate was launched in 1966, and in 1969 it was still in a state of trial operation and did not complete the formation of combat effectiveness; the first ship of the Type 051 destroyer was launched in 1970 and was still under construction; and the Type 053K frigate was launched at the end of 1971 and was still in the state of construction.
In contrast, the Soviet Red Navy "changed" so many large combat ships like a trick in the late 1960s and early 1970s, which was simply an insurmountable peak for the Chinese Navy, even if the Type 1164 really entered service until the late 70s and early 80s, for the Chinese Navy at that time, the Type 1164 was a huge ship that absolutely did not dare to imagine and could not be effectively confronted.
Imagine if the Soviet Union had not disintegrated, but in the 1990s launched a corresponding ship development plan for the TWO SHIPS OF the US Military, the "Tikon" and "Burke", and developed its own next-generation shipboard large phased array radar system based on the immature "Sky Sentinel" phased array radar at that time, then we now see another aspect of the "Soviet Red Navy". I am afraid that a certain type of heavy cruiser with a displacement of nearly 20,000 tons and even a nuclear power (similar to the famous "Xia Boyang" class cruiser) is used as the core strength of surface warfare, supplemented by the deep improvement of the Type 1155 large anti-submarine ship and the Type 956 destroyer, and the Red Navy surface warfare battle group is jointly organized.
22350M frigate program
Judging from the Red Navy's ship development route, if the "Soviet Red Navy" on this plane really exists, then the size of its warships and the combat effectiveness of a single ship will dwarf the 8,000-ton 22,350M destroyer that the Russian Federation is planning and planning for many years. Correspondingly, if there is a Type 055 destroyer in that plane, it may not be able to compete with similar ships of the Soviet Red Navy, and even the Chinese Navy in that plane, after seeing the development route of the Soviet Red Navy, will choose "taking the Soviet Union as a division", and the result is that the 055, which is completely different from the "local plane" technical route and even the appearance, is uncertain.
Doomed to fail to build the 23560 nuclear-powered cruiser
Therefore, although on the current "world line", the Type 1164 cruiser is completely insufficient compared to the cutting-edge Type 055 destroyer, Ivan the Great feels that comparing the two together is more or less unpretentious, perhaps, this is the embodiment of "the fate of the fleet and the fate of the country are closely related".
