Fengxiang, as the name suggests, is inextricably linked to the phoenix. Fengxiang was called Yongzhou in ancient times, and has a long history of winemaking. "Xifeng Wine" was born in such an atmosphere.

Legend has it that more than 3,000 years ago, king Yin obtained a folk wine when he conquered "Jingfang", and after drinking it, he felt that the taste was indeed unusual, so he used it as a royal wine, that is, the later "Xifeng wine". According to archaeological findings, at least during the Western Zhou Dynasty, wine was already brewed in Yongzhou. A large number of Western Zhou bronze vessels have been excavated in Yongzhou, including various wine vessels, which fully demonstrates that winemaking, wine storage, drinking and other activities were prevalent at that time. According to the records, Xifeng wine is "the best produced by Fengxiang, Baoji, Qishan and other counties, and the taste is mellow, which is comparable to Shaanxi Fenjiu". Today, the area around Fengxiang, Baoji, Qishan and Meixian in Shaanxi Province is the capital of Qin Mugong, one of the five hegemons of the Spring and Autumn Period. Therefore, the wine produced in this place is also called "Qin wine". The "Wine Recipe" records such a legend: "Qin Mu Gong cut down the Jin and the river, and the laborers, and the only bell." Uncle Jian advised: 'Although a meter is thrown into the river and brewed', so it is thrown into the river, and the three armies are drunk. This is the famous allusion "Qin Mu referendum wine in the river".

So, why did "Qin wine" become "Xifeng wine"? This is related to the qin people's long-standing phoenix bird worship and the local phoenix story. The Qin people with the surname Yin rose to prominence in the west, but their ancestors belonged to the Eastern Bird Worship Tribe. According to the "Chronicle of History", the female ancestor of the Qin tribe is called the nun, she swallowed the eggs of the Xuan bird and became pregnant, gave birth to the male ancestor Daye, daye gave birth to Boyi, Boyi's eldest son is called the Bird Folk Clan, and its descendants are said to be "bird body, human speech" These all show that Qin's ancestors were the chongfeng clan with the Xuan bird as the totem, so in the pre-Qin period, Fengxiang and Baoji were spread two beautiful stories of "Chen Baohua Pheasant" and "Blowing Flute and Leading Phoenix".

The story of "Chen Baohua Pheasant" comes from Baoji, the ancient name of Baoji is Chen Cang, Chen Bao is the abbreviation of Mrs. Chen Cangbao, lady Bao is a female pheasant into a stone chicken. According to the "Biography of Lieyi", Chen Cangren obtained a foreign object to lift it, and dao met the second boy Ziyun: "This name is Mi, and it eats the brains of the dead underground." It is said: "The name of the second boy is Chen Bao, and he is the king of the male, and the hegemon of the female." It is a virgin and becomes a pheasant. Qin Mugong hunted and got his female. It is a shrine offering. There is the sound of light and thunder. In Nanyang, there was a red light that was more than ten meters long and came to enter the Chen Cang Ancestral Hall. Therefore, the world calls it the Treasure Lady Ancestral Hall, or there is a reason.

Some experts pointed out that it was Qin Wengong who built the temple instead of Qin Mugong, no matter which gong it was, "Chen Baohua Pheasant" is real. The "Biography of Lieyi" records that the success of the overlordship of the Qin Kingdom depended on Chen Bao, that is, two divine pheasants. Chen Cang later changed its name to Baoji, also due to this magical legend.

"Blowing the Flute and Leading the Phoenix" tells the story of Qin Mugong's daughter Lang Yu and Zhen Shi combined, and both rode away with the dragon and the phoenix. Liu Xiang recorded such a story in the Biography of Liexian.

The historian of Qin Mu, the duke of Qin, was also good at blowing pipes. Mu Gong has a female trumpet to make jade, good, Gong Sui took his wife, so he taught Yu to be a phoenix, lived for decades, blew like a phoenix, and the phoenix came to stop his house. In order to make a phoenix, the couple put it on it for several years, once they flew away with the phoenix.

Because this area is filled with magical phoenix legends, the wine here is also involved with the phoenix. During the Tang Yifeng period, the official attendant Pei Xingjian sent the Persian prince back to China, passing through Fengxiang Liulin Town, and improvised a poem after drinking: "Sending guests to the pavilion head, bees drunk butterflies do not dance." Sanyang Kai Guotai, Beautiful Willow Forest Wine. In the seventh year of Song Jiayou, when Su Shi was a judge in Fengxiang Province, he wrote a poem praising Liulin wine: "Flowers bloom and wine are not drunk, come to see the cold and green of Nanshan." The Ming Dynasty also had poems praising Liulin wine, such as Su Jun's "East Lake" poem with the sentence "Yellow flower fragrance pan pearl wine, Hua Fa Rong sweat roaming".

The change to associate Liulin wine with Fengxiang and then replace "Liulin wine" with "Xifeng wine" probably began in the Song Dynasty.

In the Tang Dynasty, Fengxiang was commonly known as "Xifu Fengxiang", and the provenance of "Xifeng" came from this. In the second year of Tang Suzong's reign, because he hoped to get the auspiciousness of Tang Zhongxing, he asked for a lottery, and renamed Yongzhou "Fengxiang", and Fengxiang changed from a county to a prefecture, with a higher level and an expanded scope. According to Zhang Nengchen's "Records of Wine Names", the Song Dynasty "Fengxiang Qiquan" wine has become famous, the Qing Dynasty is famous for "Fengjiu", and the shochu brewed in Baoji, Qishan, Yuxian and Fengxiang Counties in the "Eight Hundred Li Qinchuan" is collectively called "Fengjiu".

In the first year of the Qing Dynasty (1909), Xifeng Wine participated in the Nanyang Competition and won the second prize, which became famous at home and abroad.
