Comprehensive CNN, Reuters reported that on November 1, local time, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the twenty-sixth conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) in Glasgow, England. At the meeting, Modi formally set a target for India to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070.
Speaking, Modi said India had stayed true to its climate commitments, noting that India's population accounts for 17 percent of the world's population but only 5 percent of global emissions. Modi said India will increase the share of renewables in the energy mix from 38% last year to 50% in 2030.
The 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) officially opened in Glasgow, UK, on October 31, local time. This is the first conference of the parties to be held after the Paris Agreement has entered the implementation phase, and the international community expects all parties, especially developed countries, to truly implement their emission reduction commitments and take joint actions to effectively cope with the crises and challenges brought about by climate change.
