Your August 10 editorial, "Celebrate Sports, Not Dictatorship," was filled with false information about China and exuded arrogance and prejudice. As spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the United States, I feel the need to respond in order to set the record straight.
First, polls by international authorities show that the Chinese people's satisfaction with the Chinese government has exceeded 90% year after year. The path chosen by the Chinese people and which has been proven to be correct is not something that can be smeared and denied by one or two media outlets and some politicians. The so-called "genocide" in Xinjiang is a lie of the century fabricated by some US politicians, which has been repeatedly falsified by facts. If you have been to Xinjiang, you will know how absurd it is to preach such lies, in the past 40 years, the Uyghur population in Xinjiang has grown from 5.5 million to 12.8 million, and the average life expectancy has increased from 30 years to 72 years. On the issue of traceability of the epidemic, we oppose politicization and stigmatization, oppose the "presumption of guilt", and support WHO to carry out open, fair and transparent traceability investigations in many parts of the world as soon as possible on the basis of science and facts, and restore the truth at an early date, including cases in the United States before November 2019.
