Three new varieties
Allen et al. (2014) recently published three new species of rainbow fish from the Melanotaenia genus of West Papua-Bird's Head peninsula in Indonesia. These three breeds have been given scientific names and entered into the aquarium market, where they are raised by a number of aquarium players.
The first new variety
Over the years, the Melanotaenia ericrobertsi has been known as Meianotaenia sp." Names such as "Suswa" or "Suswa Village" circulate in the market. In 2005, Eric Roberts, a pilot flying in no man's land and a rainbow fish enthusiast, discovered this new species. He brought the first live rainbow fish into his aquarium. The species is named after him as a memorial. In the early morning, the dominant male fish will change to an orange tone, and this is when the Ai's rainbow silver mantle is particularly stunning. Like many species of the Doberay Peninsula, their body color becomes slightly dull in the evening.

Second new variety
When we visited the southern Doberay Peninsula in October 2013, my friend Jeffrey Christian and I discovered a second variety described by Allen et al. in 2014. We've already covered them in detail (Evers & Christian 2014). At present, this new species from the Aifuf River (Sungai Aifuf) has been described as M. laticlavia (wheat ear rainbow silver mandala; also known as Ave Ru meiren), and the data and morphological samples of this species are from the samples we collected at that time.

Melanotaenia laticlavia differs from previously known species of the genus Melanotaenia laticlavia in terms of its dentition. Adult males have two small gums on the plow bone, which is obviously different from the tooth column of the ordinary rainbow fish. Its scientific name refers to the broad, blue-gray longitudinal band on the fish.
The new variety has proven to be very easy to reproduce, even suitable for beginner breeders. In an aquarium with lush vegetation and somewhat dim light, with enough water flow, this mild fingerling will feel like at home, with water temperatures between 22-27°C, so that it will show a brilliant body color all day long. The fingerling is medium in size (9 cm) and the aquarium should be at least 80 cm long.
The third new variety
The third species is M. multiradiata (multifin rainbow silverfish). Jeffrey and I caught these fingerlings and used Melanotaenia sp. The name "Moswaren" introduces them (Evers & Christian 2014). I sent the sample to Dr. Allen and asked him to do DNA sequence analysis. But the new variety has been described in the past, and the sample was taken by Gerald Allen in the same place in 1999, in the Sisiah River near the village of Moswaren.

This new species is larger, about 12 cm long, and its pectoral fins are unusually numerous, which makes it easy to distinguish it from other species near Lake Ayamaru, which also means its species name multidiata (Latin for many fins).
I raise a whole bunch of these breeds. The strong male has a broad yellow stripe in the center of its body. The most typical feature is that the dorsal fin has a black and white border. This species prefers relatively low water quality and strong current environments, with temperatures ranging from 22 to 25 °C. For aquarium enthusiasts, this does not pose any major problem for them, and they have been successfully bred.
Ange Rainbow SilverFish Mutant
Dr. Allen has determined that the species of Rainbow Silver Mandala that Jeffrey and I collected from the nearby river in Isim Village are most likely M. Ange Rainbow Silver Fish (M. angfa) variant. Therefore, the distribution range of this variety should be extended further west. The Melanotaenia angfa "Isim" produced by Ethan should not be confused with other Anges, as their body color is significantly different.
