Li Can, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a researcher at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that in recent years he has been calling for greater attention to the development of new and renewable energy sources to gradually replace traditional energy sources and achieve ecological problems such as carbon dioxide emission reduction. Li Can has been committed to the field of new and renewable energy research for many years, and in his view, many European countries have reached carbon peaks around 2000, and then they have spent nearly 50 or 60 years to achieve carbon neutrality, while China has only 30 years, which is a very difficult task. Therefore, for scientific research teams in various fields, this is undoubtedly a heavy burden. "In order to complete the task of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, it is necessary to develop new technologies and even develop subversive technologies, because only in this way can we truly provide a Chinese path for the country to complete the carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals at an early date." Li Can said.

It is understood that the world's first set of "liquid solar fuel synthesis demonstration projects" developed by Li Can's team is also known as "liquid sunshine", that is, the use of renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy, and hydropower to decompose water to prepare green hydrogen energy, hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into methanol and other liquid fuels, and conversion and storage of renewable energy into liquid fuels. This technology has passed the appraisal of scientific and technological achievements last year, and several of the key technologies are internationally leading. Li Can introduced that the realization of "liquid sunlight" technology actually solves two big problems, one is to solve the problem of carbon dioxide emissions on a large scale, and the other is to provide a new idea for the storage and transportation of solar renewable energy.

Li Can believes that in order to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, in addition to efforts in the field of technology research and development, it is also necessary to make the public aware of the seriousness of the carbon emission problem, and to make organic energy, clean energy, renewable energy, and green life concepts deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. In addition, for enterprises, energy must be the main development force supporting the upward movement of the economy, which means that the development of renewable energy is the direction for enterprises to achieve economic benefits and carbon neutrality goals.

In addition, Li Can said that to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, different provinces and regions in China may have to take steps. He mentioned in the proposal that China's coal resources and renewable resources rich in "rich mineral" areas, such as Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Tibet, Yunnan, Guizhou, Shanxi, Liaoning and other places, are suitable for the development of green hydrogen energy and liquid sunlight technology, but the ability to absorb renewable energy on the spot is limited, and the pressure of carbon neutrality is large. If the "liquid sunlight" can be used, it can solve the large-scale storage of renewable energy and safely transport it to other areas such as the eastern coast. This can drive the economic development and industrial upgrading of the western region and help complete the carbon neutrality goal.

In order to better promote the "liquid sunlight" technology and achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, Li Can also put forward several suggestions at the policy level, namely, the implementation of the carbon emission trading right policy; vigorously promote the use of liquid sunlight methanol as fuel vehicles; and levy a certain amount of carbon tax on imported methanol.
