Initiated by Chen Xianghong, Huang Lei, Lai Shengchuan and Meng Jinghui, the 2021 Wuzhen Drama Festival brings together 66 performances from 24 specially invited plays from all over the country. It kicked off with the new play "The Red and the Black" directed by Meng Jinghui, and the super-long drama "Once Upon a Time" choreographed and directed by Lai Shengchuan pulled the curtain down. The works of 11 female dramatists, including Jin Xing, Yang Kasa, Yan Yi and Yan Yue, appeared in the specially invited repertoire unit, showing the overall appearance of Chinese drama tolerance and diversity in an all-round way.
This year's Wuzhen Drama Festival specially invited plays are divided into seven major sections, "clouds on the sky", "between light and dark", "wind and grass", "full of stars", "wind and water dance", "all things break dawn" and "far away", and invite a number of drama masters to bring the Mesozoic and new generation dramatists to perform on the same stage, including many Chinese and foreign classics, classical new students, but also no lack of new original scripts, personality, leading the audience into a multi-dimensional theater world.
