The next day, Robinson found the large ship that had run aground. He built a tent out of canvas and wood and put in everything that was susceptible to moisture and sunburn. The next day, some more trees were cut down and a 5/6 foot high fence was formed in front of the tent. The fence had no doors, and he made a short ladder to climb in and out. He felt very safe like this.
When Robinson went out hunting, he left all the wild goats he caught and domesticated them. Over the years, he actually had dozens of goats, enough to eat.
He inadvertently spilled the grains of wheat on the ground, and they actually thrived and grew ears of wheat. After the wheat was harvested, Robinson found a piece of hardwood, hollowed out the middle to make a wooden mortar, and used it to beat out flour. He also built clay pots to store wheat and flour.
Robinson was exploring the island, and one day he found a place with mountains and water, surrounded by wild melons and fruits, and bunches of lovely grapes hanging from the trees, really like a beautiful garden. He was so happy with the discovery that he spent three days collecting fruit, hanging grapes from trees to dry them into raisins, and taking oranges and lemons back for storage as food for the rainy season.
After the rainy season, Robinson continued to venture out, living in an open field with a large number of birds. He took great pains to catch a little parrot, named it "Bao'er", and taught it to speak when nothing happened. Before long, "Bao'er" was able to say all kinds of things, which made Robinson no longer feel lonely.
One day in the twenty-fourth year of Robinson's arrival on the desert island, he saw five canoe boats coming from the other end of the island, and more than thirty natives coming down, dancing on the shore. The natives then dragged three captives from the ship and prepared to kill them. It turned out that this was a human flesh feast made by cannibals. One of the captives, untied by his hands and feet, pulled his leg in the direction of Robinson and ran, and the three natives chased after him. Robinson decided to rescue him, killing the natives who had caught up with him and bringing the rescued boy back to his quarters.
Robinson named the boy "Friday" and taught him to speak, grow grain, sift grain, and make bread; Robinson also told him the secret of gunpowder and bullets, and Friday was very clever, and he could teach it very skillfully. With a companion, Robinson bids farewell to a lonely life, and in the days of spending time together, he and Friday have developed a deep affection.
One morning, Friday came back in a panic, and it turned out that there were three boats and a dozen natives on the seashore. The two of them ran to the sea with guns and ammunition, and just as the natives were about to kill the captives they had brought, they raised their guns and shot, killing three on the spot. Of the two people rescued, one was white, and the other turned out to be Friday's father, and the father and son were very excited to see each other. Since then, Robinson has had two more partners, and everyone gets along very well.
On this day, an English galleon stopped six or seven nautical miles from the island, and a small sampan was put down on the ship and sailed towards the desert island. This is not a British trade route, and there have been no winds and waves in recent days, so why is this British ship parked here? All this aroused Robinson's alarm. At this time, the small sampan came to the shore, and a group of people escorted three people to the shore.
Sure enough, the gang was pirates. Of the three men who were escorted ashore, one of them was the owner of the big ship, the other was the first officer, and the other was a passenger. The pirates took advantage of the fact that the owner of the ship hired sailors to mix into the big ship, and at sea the pirates joined several sailors to seize the big ship, and then threw the owner and three other people to the desert island. Robinson and Friday rescued the shipowners and subdued the pirates and sailors on shore. After some planning, Robinson helped the owner board the big ship, killed the pirate leader, and recaptured the big ship in one fell swoop.
In the end, they left the captured pirates on the island. Robinson excitedly boarded the big ship with Friday and the others and the parrot "Bao'er", leaving the isolated island where he had lived for twenty-eight years and sailing for England.
Robinson Crusoe is a novel by the English writer Daniel Defoe, published on April 25, 1719.
