The famous city of Shenyang, with a long history and profound cultural heritage, is the origin of China's paper painting culture. I am the founder of China's paper-and-knife culture. The great era encourages innovation, praises creation, and objectively cultivates a warm and suitable living soil and a broad space for growth for me to create a Chinese paper knife painting. Chinese knife painting on paper – this new genre of painting originated in the mid-1990s. The emergence of knife painting on Chinese paper is purely accidental, but there is an inevitability in chance. Today, I will tell the story of The Creation of Chinese Paper Knives in Shenyang.
Unexpected Origins – Curiosity is a direct catalyst produced by knife painting on Chinese paper
On April 9, 1995, when I was 27 years old, I was working in the Communist Youth League in Liaozhong County, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, and I was nervously busy to welcome the arrival of China's "May Fourth" Youth Day. In the specific work of preparing for the "May Fourth" Youth Day, the "May Fourth" medal, the "May Fourth" award certificate, the "May Fourth" activity invitation, etc., accidentally cut the red cardboard on the table with the paper cutter in his hand, so a striking white line appeared on the red cardboard.

According to common sense, this scratched red cardboard has lost its original application attributes and use functions, and should be thrown directly into the paper basket, and perhaps nothing will happen. But sometimes there is no word "maybe" in this world, not only did I not throw away this scratched red cardboard, but I stared at the cardboard intently and wondered in surprise: Why does the red cardboard appear so bright white line? Since you can inadvertently draw such a clear and eye-catching white line, can a conscious knife stroke be able to paint? With doubts, I immediately took action after returning home, moved the knife on another brand new a4 paper-sized red cardboard, and used three days of spare time to draw a "Peacock Dance Diagram", which can only be regarded as a pattern, and cannot be called a painting, but it is this small pattern that seems to ordinary people to be extremely inconspicuous, but I am really happy and excited: I can actually draw with a knife on red cardboard! Thus, the prototype of The Knife Painting on Chinese Paper was inadvertently born.

One of the main reasons why people commemorate the "May Fourth" Youth Day is to commemorate the revolutionary spirit of China's progressive youth in the "May Fourth" movement a hundred years ago, who dared to break through and dare to try, and perhaps it was precisely because of the influence and inspiration of the pioneering and innovative revolutionary spirit of china's "May Fourth" movement that I was inspired to create a Chinese paper painting! If there is no commemoration of the "May Fourth" Youth Day, there will be no accident of knife scratching cardboard, and without this accident, there will be no intention of painting with a knife on red cardboard under any circumstances. This is the story of my accidental origin on Chinese paper.

Inevitable causes - persistence is the hard truth of the existence of Chinese paper and knife painting
It may not be difficult to discover a new thing by chance, but it is difficult to persevere in it, and on this basis, to continuously carry out new explorations and new attempts. The creative process of Chinese knife painting on paper is such a process of continuous innovation while adhering to it. The most essential feature of new things is that they are completely lonely in the beginning, no one recognizes, no one communicates, no one goes along, and no one resonates. Innovators are completely isolated, truly self-existent. This is the case with knife painting on Chinese paper, this kind of painting that I have done completely alone, I have magically persevered unconsciously, and I have insisted on it for twenty-six years. "Unknown depth and shallow small first taste, heavy paper tired of the knife wilderness." Concentrate on writing a hundred forms, and forget a few cold windows outside the world. Spring red has passed away, and the green silk is still dying frost. The blade carving is depicted as a pleasure, don't ask the harvest to get busy with farming." Twenty-six years of cold and summer, flowers falling, obscurity, silent perseverance. Nameless figure, no profit, stubborn persistence in hard work, no matter the good times and bad times, no matter the denial and recognition of others, never said to give up. I spend almost all of my spare time in the practice of drawing knives on paper. When others gather to drink tea, drink wine, play chess and chat, I am knife painting; when others are running, swimming, dancing and yoga, I am still knife painting. I, a lonely knife painter on paper, was engaged in this alternative kind of painting practice as long as I could squeeze out time, often using the knife as a pen until three or four o'clock in the morning. Because only at night do I have my own undisturbed creative time, which is the golden moment of my knife painting.

In the beginning, the knife painting on paper was thick lines, not three-dimensional enough, and the color was single, and the knife painting on the paper at that time was to draw with a knife on red cardboard, red background, white line pattern, which looked a bit like paper cutting. Back in June 2011, the Shenyang Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection held an exhibition of clean government cultural works celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Cpc, and one of my knife paintings "Qing Yun Man Tang" won the first prize, but it was classified as a paper cut. I went to the organizer and said that my painting was not a paper cut. The organizer said that looking at the color of the work is somewhat like a red paper cut, it is included in it, otherwise there is no class to return. That's right, even I didn't know which category my paintings belonged to. In fact, on weekdays, I often encounter such embarrassment. When friends see my painting, they casually ask: What is this painting? I explained that I had drawn on paper with a knife. Friends shook their heads and said that they had never seen such a painting, and they could draw on paper with a knife? How do you paint that? Some friends said bluntly: I don't believe that China is so big and the world is so big, you alone will paint this kind of painting? In the face of my friends' doubts and doubts, my heart was not affected at all, and I should be full of confidence in the knife painting.
"Stealing Joy"
It should be said that the paper painting at that time was a tiny existence that could not see any hope at all, or a play that no one cared about at all, and the future and prospects could not be talked about. It is in this situation that I am never disturbed by the external environment, you say yours, I paint mine; you say that I paint well, I continue to paint late at night; you say that I paint differently, I still insist on painting tirelessly.

In this way, time flies, and it has gone through twenty-six annual rings in a flash, and it is the unswerving perseverance that makes the Chinese paper painting lonely but tenacious existence. I, a young man who was flourishing at that time, was also over fifty years old, and now that my sideburns are dyed and frosted, I am still full of the beautiful dreams of my youth in the face of the paper knife painting that I created, full of the vigorous vitality of the youth season, and full of the high strength of the prime. Although Shaohua was not there, his strong heart was strong. People's dreams of survival, the four seasons enjoy the flowers", this is my real mentality of creating knives on paper at the moment. Drawing knives on paper is an indispensable and important support in my life. What's going on with life? Where has the time gone? For me, painting with a knife on paper is my unique way of life and my unique sense of survival. And every minute and second of time is composed of a colorful and different kind of painting. The painting is loaded with my precious time and into the purest dreams of my life. Only when life is loaded with dreams, will it be confident, clear and frank, and will it live a grand and ritualistic life; life will only be full of the strength to forge ahead, down-to-earth, heroic and high-spirited into hope.

Chinese knife painting on paper has been demonstrated as the culture of the place of origin by the Research Center for The Culture of the Place of Origin in China. Four national IP rights have been acquired. Since China's paper painting has seven characteristics, such as uniqueness, science and technology, and economy, it is not difficult to judge: Chinese paper painting can form at least four major development industries in the future: knife painting art industry, education industry, manufacturing industry, and cultural and creative industry. Chinese knife painting on paper has a unique artistic value and has the necessity of group learning knife painting on paper; Chinese paper painting has significant innovative value and the inevitability of group learning; Chinese paper painting has considerable economic value and has the enthusiasm for group learning. In particular, the Chinese paper painting originated in Shenyang, which has a special significance.
