Responding to a request for donations by a U.N. official on Twitter on November 1, Musk said he would sell his shares immediately if the U.N.'s World Food Programme (WFP) could explain in detail how to use $6 billion to tackle global hunger. In addition, he added a condition that WFP's financial reports must be made public so that "the public can see exactly how the money is being spent."
Earlier, WFP Administrator David Beasley was giving his views on the food crisis in a talk show. Beasley called on the super-rich like Musk and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to come forward and provide one-off assistance. David Beasley said, "Just $6 billion could save 42 million lives worldwide. "
