Bremen musician

Once upon a time, a man had a donkey. For years, donkeys have laboriously carried their pockets to the mill.

Later, the donkey grew old and weak, and he could no longer work, and the master wanted to kill him. The donkey escaped and walked toward the city of Bremen. It thought it could be a musician there.

It walked for a short while and saw a hound lying on the road panting, as if tired of running.

The donkey asked: Hey, hound, what's wrong with you, sighing like this?

The dog said: Alas, I am old, I am getting weaker and weaker day by day, I can no longer go hunting, my master wants to kill me, I have escaped, how can I live after that?

The donkey said, "Look, I'm going to Bremen now, I want to be a musician in town there, you go with me, and let the band hire you." I play the lute, you play the drums.

The dog agreed, and they walked forward together. It wasn't long before they saw a cat sitting on the side of the road, his face full of displeasure.

The donkey said: Hey, old beard, what's wrong with you?

The cat replied: Because I am old, my teeth are blunt, I always like to lie behind the stove and snor, I don't want to catch mice, my hostess is going to drown me, although I have escaped, but now I really don't know how to be good, where should I go?

Come with us to Bremen, you know night music and you can be a musician in town there.

The cat thought it was a good idea and went with them.

Later, when the three fugitives passed by the courtyard door of a farmhouse, they saw a large rooster standing on the door and shouting desperately.

The donkey said, you scream so terrible, what's the matter? I was forecasting the weather, the rooster said, but because tomorrow is a festival, there are guests coming, the host's heart is fierce, he said to the female chef, tomorrow he will take me to cook soup and drink, ask the female chef to cut off my head tonight, and now while I am not dead, I will open my throat and shout desperately.

The donkey said, "Oh, you red-headed fellow, just come with us, and we'll go to Bremen, and it's better to be there than to die." You have a good voice, and if a few of us play music together, it must be very good. The rooster agreed to this suggestion, and the four of them went forward together.

But they could not reach Bremen in one day, and in the evening they came to a forest and had to spend the night here. Donkeys and dogs lay under a large tree; cats and roosters liked to sleep on branches, and roosters flew all the way to the treetops, where it was safest for it. Before the rooster went to sleep, he looked around again, saw a little light in the distance, and told his companion that there must be a house not far away, because there was a light there.

The donkey said, "Then let's go over there, it's too bad to spend the night here."

The dog thought that if he could find a few bones or a little meat there, it would not be bad. So they got on the road again and walked in the direction of the light. It wasn't long before they saw the lights come on, and getting brighter. They came to a brightly lit house. The donkey was the tallest, and it leaned out of the window to look inside.

The rooster asked: What do you see?

Am I seeing something? The donkey replied that a table was covered with table cloth filled with delicious meals and drinks, and the robbers were sitting next to them eating and drinking.

The rooster said, "If only this table had been prepared for us."

The donkey said: Yes, yes, ah, may we sit there!

So the animals discussed how to drive the robbers away, and they finally came up with a solution. The donkey puts its front foot on the windowsill, the dog jumps on the donkey's back, the cat climbs on the dog's body, and finally the rooster flies up and stands on the cat's head, so that after standing up, they send a signal and play together: donkey barking, dog dog, cat shouting, chicken chirping. Then they rushed into the house from outside the window, and the window glass crackled and shattered.

When the robbers heard this terrible sound, they jumped up in fright, thinking that a monster had come in, and fled into the forest in a hurry. The four companions sat down at the table and ate the rest of the meal as if they had been hungry for four weeks.

After the four musicians had finished eating, they turned off the lights, and each of them found a place to sleep according to their own habits.

Donkeys lie on the dung heap, dogs lie behind doors, cats crouch in hot ashes on the stove, and roosters crouch on roof beams. They had traveled a long way, were very tired, and soon fell asleep. After midnight, the robbers saw from a distance that there was no light in the house, as if everything had calmed down. The leader of the robbers said: We should not be blind and afraid. So he sent someone to check on the house first. The man who sent him found that everything was quiet and went into the kitchen to light the lamp, and he used the fiery cat's eyes as burning charcoal.

Take a sulfur match and lead it. The cat didn't know how to joke, so it jumped on his face and spat and scratched. He was startled and tried to run out the back door, but the dog lying there pounced on him and bit him in the leg. He ran through the yard and, as he passed by the dung heap, was kicked in the hind leg of a donkey. The rooster woke her from her sleep by the noise, and it shook its spirits and shouted down from the beam: Oh, oh, oh.

The robber ran back in one breath and said to his leader, "Oh, there is a terrible witch sitting in the house, and he blew a breath at me and scratched my face with her long hand." At the door stood a man with a knife and stabbed me in the leg, and in the courtyard lay a black monster that came at me with a wooden stick, and on the roof sat a judge who shouted: Bring the villain. Scared me and I ran away.

From then on, the robbers never dared to enter the house again, and the four Happy People of Bremen lived in it, feeling very comfortable and never wanting to come out again!
