Bangkok, November 1 (China News Service) -- Thailand began reopening its doors to receive international tourists on November 1. Tourists from the first batch of more than 60 low-risk countries and regions identified by the Thai government who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can be exempted from quarantine when entering Thailand by plane from now on.
According to preliminary statistics, there were 61 flights to Thailand at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport on the same day, about 2,300 international tourists arrived in Thailand, and about 800 Thais returned from abroad.
Previously, the inbound and outbound flight booking data counted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand on October 29 showed that more than 20,000 tourists will enter and leave Thailand from November 1 to 5, of which more than 15,000 are inbound tourists and more than 6,200 are outbound.
The Thai Chamber of Commerce expects Thailand to receive 300,000 international visitors a month for the remainder of the year.
In order to resume international tourism, Bangkok, Thailand and other places have relaxed some epidemic prevention measures from the same day, including lifting the curfew and allowing restaurants to serve alcohol and beverages, but entertainment venues, bathing and massage centers are still prohibited from operating. In addition, it is forbidden to hold events for more than 1,000 people without permission.
Thai Prime Minister's Office spokesman Tanakorn said that Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who has traveled to the United Kingdom to attend the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, is still concerned about the implementation of the plan to open the country to international tourists, and hopes that the Thai people will actively cooperate with government policies and be a good host. Prayut also asked relevant departments to work together to strictly implement relevant policies and epidemic prevention regulations so that the Thai people can benefit from the tourism recovery plan.
The Thailand New Crown Pneumonia Epidemic Management Center reported on the same day that there were 8,165 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia and 55 deaths.
