Herbivorous, which nibbles on corals and reefs of seaweed, and also feeds on filamentous algae in groups. When they encounter unexpected situations, they exhibit rigid stationary behavior. During the breeding season, groups of tens of thousands of individuals form subgroups, of which every 10-20 individuals form subgroups. Populations near the equator can spawn at any time of the year, and populations in other regions reproduce seasonally, such as those in the Hawaiian seas, which only spawn during the full moon period from February to March. Migrate 2 km before spawning to reach a reef breeding ground on the seaward side or a waterway connecting lagoons and oceans.
