Shanghai, 31 Oct (Xinhua) -- The opening of the Fourth China International Import Expo is imminent. German chemical giant Covestro, which made its "debut" at the Expo this year, said in Shanghai on the 29th that its booth was made entirely of polycarbonate sheets made of industrial production waste recycling and recycling, which minimized the carbon dioxide emissions caused by raw materials and construction, so as to reflect the vision of "creating a low-carbon future together".

There is a Chinese proverb: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. This year's EXPO attracts many new and old exhibitors from Germany, who hope to express the concept of carbon emission reduction "a journey of a thousand miles, starting with a single step" by displaying new products and new technologies.

A European institution has found that about 12.5 billion pairs of sneakers can be produced worldwide every year, and its raw material acquisition and processing, waste generation, component production, assembly, packaging, transportation, use and subsequent treatment all generate carbon emissions, especially at the source of production. Therefore, as the world's leading polymer material research and development enterprise, Covestro is promoting the "carbon reduction article" of "a pair of shoes".

Located in the Covestro office in Pudong, Shanghai, and the Asia-Pacific R&D Center, a pair of sneakers was on display: the harder polycarbonate was used in the shoe material, and the polyurethane raw material could be 3D printed to become the sole.

Covestro CEO Xerox Said ahead of the Expo that Covestro already has the ability to supply customers in the Asia-Pacific region with high-performance polycarbonate plastics made from alternative raw materials and polyurethane raw materials in large quantities. This means that at the Expo, the company will help China's recycling and sustainable development in the petrochemical field by demonstrating new technologies and related solutions, such as carbon dioxide technology that can "turn waste into treasure".

Not only are the German companies about to make their "debut" focus on "carbon reduction", but German companies that have participated in the Expo for four consecutive years, such as BSH Group and RÜWE Group, have also spared no effort to show their carbon emission reduction solutions. From household appliances in daily life to the development of various testing standards in laboratories and factories, these companies hope to carry out "carbon reduction" in the Chinese market to the end.
