History

Xia Shang, Shu gradually developed and distributed in the Sichuan Basin. During the Spring and Autumn Warring States period, the Shu established a state in the basin. Before the Qin Dynasty destroyed the Shu State, the territory of present-day Suining Was under the jurisdiction of the Ancient Shu State. A unique early Shu culture has been formed here, and it was once a prosperous area of the Shu kingdom.

In the ninth year of the reign of Queen Huiwen of Qin (316 BC), she destroyed the state of Shu and established Shu Commandery (蜀郡). Shu Commandery ruled present-day Chengdu. Present-day Suining was under the jurisdiction of Shu Commandery (蜀郡).

In the sixth year of gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (201 BC), the eastern part of Shu County and several counties in Ba County, Guanghan County. It administers 13 counties of Luo, Xindu, Mianzhu, Shifang, Fu, Zitong, Baishui, Yemeng, Hao, Guanghan, Dianji, Gangxi, and Yinping. On October 18, 1958, Suining Prefecture was abolished, and the seven counties under its jurisdiction, Suining, Pengxi, Zhongjiang, Santai, Shehong, Yanting and Tongnan, were transferred to Mianyang Prefecture. Anyue and Lezhi counties were assigned to neijiang Special District.

On February 8, 1985, Mianyang District was abolished and the three prefecture-level cities of Suining, Mianyang and Guangyuan were separated. Suining City Administrative District was established. Suining, Shehong and Pengxi counties, which were originally subordinate to The Mianyang District, were divided into counties under the jurisdiction of Suining City. Suining County was withdrawn to Suining City, Shizhong District. The municipal government is located in Shizhong District, Suining City.

On December 28, 1997, the western part of Pengxi County was established as Daying County.

On December 18, 2003, Suining Shizhong District was abolished and Suining Chuanshan and Anju Districts were separated.

At the end of December 2004, Suining City Administrative District had jurisdiction over two districts and three counties. The municipal government is located in Chuanshan District, Suining City.

On August 16, 2019, Shehong County was abolished and Shehong City was established.
