An ice hockey game at Beijing's Wukesong Stadium will be run as a trial run, and organizers plan to deploy 30 robots to help host the game. Two robots participated in the trial, one disinfecting the arena and the other providing hand sanitizer and reminding people to wear masks.
Wukesong Stadium is one of the venues where robots helped implement the coronavirus response measures for the Beijing Winter Olympics.
"This robot played a leading role in disinfecting the stadium," China International Television (CGTN) reported, "it spreads disinfectant atomization through a fan at the top, which can disinfect an area of 36 square meters in one minute." "You can cover 1,000 square meters on a single charge." Its chassis is equipped with a radar for navigating around the arena. The mobile app can also be used to set where it needs to be disinfected and how much time it should spend in that area.
Another robot, called "Little White," can identify when someone is not wearing a mask and will walk up to them and suggest wearing a mask. It also has a non-contact hand sanitizer on its head. The robot is said to be able to do the work of three to four volunteers. The implementation of these robots reduced the number of people in the arena to about 1,000 people.
In addition to robots, Wukesong Stadium also set up digital checkpoints. After checking the temperature of workers and scanning their QR codes, checkpoints send their health, travel and vaccination records to remotely monitored terminals and then take action in the event of a possible coronavirus outbreak. "Using QR codes is a very convenient and effective way to connect the necessary data," Luo Qian, a venue staffer, said in an interview with China International Television, "which is also safe because there is no other information associated with it." ”
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics are scheduled for February 4-20 next year. This will make Beijing the first city in history to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics after the 2008 Olympics. The Beijing Winter Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place from March 4 to 13 next year.
