Nine members of a civilian rescue group in Brazil were buried while training in a cave

SAO PAULO, Oct. 31 (China News Service) According to Brazilian media reports, in the early morning of October 31, local time, 28 members of the Brazilian civil rescue group were conducting rescue training in a cave on the outskirts of Altinopolis, São Paulo State, when the top of the cave suddenly collapsed, causing 10 people to be buried, 9 of whom were killed, and one was successfully rescued.

Brazil Global Network reported on October 31 that the accident occurred in the Ribeirao Preto area of São Paulo State, 335 kilometers from the city of São Paulo, the capital of the state. On the evening of October 30, local time, members of the civil rescue group organized by a local school stayed overnight in the cave as part of the rescue training.

The accident occurred at around 1 a.m. on October 31, when the top of the cave suddenly collapsed, and 28 members of the civil rescue group and instructors were training inside the cave, resulting in 10 people being buried in the cave.

After the accident, the Brazilian military police dispatched helicopters to send more than 70 rescuers and firefighters to the mouth of the cave where the accident occurred for rescue, and 20 vehicles participated in the rescue operation. At 9:45 a.m. on October 31, a trapped person was successfully rescued.

So far, the local fire department has confirmed that the nine victims included two women and one man. (End)
