"Once Upon a Time in the Tropics" has attracted much attention from the industry as early as the development stage of the project. The film was shortlisted for the 2017 Shanghai International Film Festival Film Project Venture Capital, won the "Bad Monkey 72 Change Film Project Special Attention Project", in addition, it was also shortlisted for the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival Genius Project Market, won the "VFF Talent Highlight Award" Project Venture Capital First Award, the first Chinese film project in history to win this award. Director Wen Shipei said that he pursues more "aftertaste" expression in genre films, and "Tropical Past" strives to present a unique sense of atmosphere in the genre film mode and "back to sweetness" outside the genre narrative, making it closer to the director's expression appeal. It is reported that the atmosphere of the movie "Tropical Past" is not only reflected in the aesthetic style, but also in the narrative perspective, and the rare suspect's perspective is fascinating to the peeping of other protagonists, which will add more freshness and mystery to the film.
