20211030 a blank piece of paper: a small discussion on the ethical self-discipline of smoking and other disciplines
When I entered the school recently, I noticed that there were many honor or title signs hanging at the school gate, one of which was called "Smoke-free School". As a result, I thought about the self-discipline and other disciplines of smoking.
Regarding the establishment of smoke-free schools, as schools for cultivating people, advocating a healthy lifestyle, following public order and good customs, and responding to the call of the state (The Patriotic Health Association) is a natural requirement, it is necessary to publicize it well and buy it well.
To make smoke-free schools really smoke-free, it depends on other laws and regulations such as publicity and warning education, appropriate supervision, and the setting up of smoking areas, and also depends on the recognition and respect of smoke-free schools in people's minds, forming a smoke-free atmosphere in the crowd, so that out-of-norm smokers are invisibly "forced" to regulate themselves. The most important thing is official and formal publicity and supervision. Ethical self-discipline and other disciplines, although important but not always effective, after all, colleagues have the necessity of long-term harmonious relationships, pointing fingers at others, or being pointed at, some people are always uncomfortable. Unless there is an open-mindedness in the belly of the prime minister, and a goodness to think of others from a good stream, if there is such a virtue, it is rare to make uncomfortable moves. Of course, it is not good to endure not to say it, or to say it to no avail. It's not good for relationships to strain as a result. Therefore, on the issue of smoking, I think these two are the most important, namely the initiative, the demand and supervision of the authorities, and the personal self-discipline of smokers, so that smoke-free schools can live up to their name and the "smokers" and non-smokers can live up to their happiness.
The requirements of smoke-free schools, my understanding, are that the highest pursuit is that no one smokes within the scope of the school; the secondary pursuit is that it is possible to smoke in a single place of "smokers"; the third is to smoke in a special "smoking area"; fourth, it is to rely on self-discipline and flexibility. Think about it, which one or more of us belong to?
With regard to the dangers of smoking, smokers may not recognize or have their own views or experiences, which is his personal choice and should be respected. For passive smokers, in the current social atmosphere, most people perceive it as harmful and psychologically exclusive, and their rights and interests should also be protected. In this relationship, if the passive smoker does not have the right to "say no" to the smoker, then, compared with the active smoker, the passive effect on the passive smoker due to the smoking of others is not only unhelpful but also more harmful to physical and mental health, which is very unfair. Because smokers can see the harm of smoking or have a special ability to dissolve the harm in their own bodies, and actively enjoy the social pleasure and sensory pleasure brought by smoking, it is very pleasing to the individual. On the contrary, for passive smokers, it is not beneficial and harmful, and the harm is very large, including psychological unhappiness caused by fear of the consequences of injury, second-hand smoking, and third-hand smoking are more harmful to the body, and even no less than the damage suffered by the smoker himself. Three-handed smoking refers to passive smoking that is not at the smoking site, but is formed by the accumulation of cigarette molecules attached to furniture decoration and slowly oozing out. Passive smokers in the workplace are more helpless, because work is necessary, work is forced to effectively escape the smoking office area, passive victimization is inevitable. Therefore, a modern, civilized and fair society must regulate smokers and protect passive smokers. In areas where there is no smoking ban, or where there is no effective implementation of smoking ban, the normative smoker can only rely on the moral self-discipline of the smoker, and the passive smoker either flees or endures, or individual dares to persuade the smoker, the effect must be unsatisfactory.
In fact, our school has done a very good job in the implementation of smoke-free management and personal behavior. For example, there are a certain number of warnings, there are very few smokers, and most of them can behave self-disciplined, the number of students who smoke is also very small, and the number of open smokers in classroom conference rooms and large offices is extremely rare. On this point, give them a thumbs up for their self-discipline.
Even so, smoking irregularities still occur from time to time, and there is a lack of effective warning, reminder, and supervision, and can only rely on the moral self-discipline of "smokers" and the reluctant "tolerance" and "generosity" of indirect smokers to maintain this fragile balance. It is also found that students smoke, which does not seem to be enough for student education and restraint, and there are no smoking areas, which make smoke-free schools not perfectly implemented, or called fly in the ointment.
For the sake of everyone's physical and mental health, I sincerely hope: 1, for your own and your family, smoke less, do not smoke. 2. In order to protect others, do not manufacture second-hand smoke and third-hand smoke, please find a suitable place to smoke.
