Mexico's central bank announced a ban on the use of virtual currencies in the country's financial system

On June 28, local time in Mexico, the Central Bank of Mexico (Banxico), the Ministry of Finance of Mexico and the National Bank and Securities Commission issued a joint statement announcing that virtual currencies are not Mexican fiat currencies and are prohibited from being used in the country's financial system.

In the statement, Mexican financial regulators have repeatedly warned that there are risks in using virtual currencies such as bitcoin, ether and other virtual currencies or cryptocurrencies as a medium of exchange, store of value or investment means. All financial institutions in Mexico are not allowed to provide the relevant services without authorization, and it is clearly stated that violators will be punished.

Some analysts pointed out that this statement is considered to be a response to the recent virtual currency boom in Mexico and Latin America. (Reporter Sheng Jiadi Lu Xinglin)
