The sun was shining, the wind was warm, and it was spring again on the way. Recently, we have said goodbye to some memorable names, and after a lot of emotions, we still have to go back to life, back to the books waiting for us to open and read. The cracks in the stone bricks have drilled out the new shoots of wild vegetables, and the bare branches have re-emerged with new green, may you and I be like them, living up to the spring light and grasping the fate of time.
The deceased
After Albert Einstein, the scientist with the greatest social influence
British theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking died on March 14 at his home in Gran Cambridge – one of the most shocking news in a week. On that day, almost all social media was "swiped" by relevant information and memorials. This physically handicapped physicist, who has achieved great things, has become a symbol that accompanies our generation. He was repeatedly written into student essays, and his "A Brief History of Time" was a perennial hit, and he was called "the greatest", "the most outstanding", "the most remarkable"... But it is rare to know how much Hawking has contributed to the theoretical physics community and understand how far Hawking has gone in cosmological research. Beyond these inspirational labels and praise routines, we should see a real, flesh-and-blood Hawking.
We interviewed Mr. Li Miao, a theoretical physicist, dean of the Institute of Astronomy and Space Science of Sun Yat-sen University, and a popular science writer, and in Li Miao's view, it is not right to say that Hawking is the greatest physicist after Einstein; it can only be said that Hawking is the scientist with the greatest social influence after Einstein - it is very likely that people think that Hawking is not the real Hawking.
Reading, teaching, and writing books is his life
At 9:40 a.m. on March 13, Nie Shiqiao, a professor at the College of Literature of Beijing Normal University, died at the age of 92. Throughout his life, Nie Shiqiao has been engaged in the teaching and research of ancient literary history, and his scholarship focuses on the empirical research of simple learning methods and the research vision based on macroscopic historical knowledge. He is the author of "Drafts of the History of Literature of the Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties", "New Notes on Chu Ci", "Treatises on Qu Yuan", "Treatises on Ancient Novels and Operas" and other books. Although the works are equal, Tao Li Tianxia, Mr. Nie Shiqiao is peaceful and simple, even "Mu Ne", the highest position is only a director of teaching and research departments, and his popularity is limited to the academic community. His wife, Deng Kuiying, concluded that he was a "nerd" and that "reading, teaching, and writing, this is his life."

What to eat to show that spring is coming
Spring is here. By what do we perceive the seasons? Depending on the season, the food is different. Some argue that with the development of technologies such as cultivation, transportation, and storage, the emergence of out-of-season vegetables, the disconnection of seasons from food, and the long-standing criticism of detachment by some thinkers who oppose technological modernity, because the highly uniform and cookie-cutter food throughout the year reduces our ability to perceive natural changes – this view may be controversial, but in the spring, eating food exclusive to spring is, after all, good.
This week, we shared the spring recipes of a Japanese couple in the new book "Tasteful Little Days", such as making a meal of artemisia rice with mugwort sprouts, tasting fresh wakame freshly picked by fishermen, mixing a pasta with a stone lettuce on a rock, marinating rape flowers for an evening, making tea to make rice or a small dish when drinking tea, cooking a bowl of simple peppercorn rice with new sprouts of peppercorns... How about, let's try it?
A false apology is not a true confession
Doing something wrong and saying "I'm sorry" is something we learned in early childhood. But apologies are far less simple than the three words "sorry", and it can even be said that in our lives, "pseudo-apologies" abound. Because "apologizes should be forgiven" and "offenses should be apologized" are complementary acts of etiquette, and many apologies are spoken from the population just to get forgiveness, rather than really admitting mistakes and trying to make amends.
The article "Oh, saying "I'm sorry" is sometimes useless, which is some of the ways to distinguish between "pseudo-apologies" shown in the book "The Power of Apologies". For example, vaguely saying "I apologize for everything I've done" and then there's no more; using an irrelevant tone or passive tone, saying things like "things have happened" and "mistakes have been made" instead of "I did it"; downplaying my own faults as much as possible; saying "I'm sorry" or "sorry" with sympathy... None of these statements are to take responsibility for fault, and neither is a true confession or effective apology.
English translation of The Legend of the Eagle Shooter
How difficult is it for Western readers to understand Jin Yong?
Recently, the Swedish girl Anna Homewood translated the English translation of "The Legend of the Eagle Hero", "The Birth of the Hero", which was distributed globally by a British publishing house. In the field of Chinese literature, Jin Yong has always been firmly in the first place of martial arts novels. But another reality that is somewhat embarrassing is that Jin Yong's novel translations, especially the English translations, are far less influential than those in the Chinese community. For example, a popular American best-selling novel critic Arthur's translation of the excerpt of the English version of the "Jin Yong Anthology", his introduction to "The Eagle Hero", Yang Guo and Xiaolongnü are understood as "eagle breeding experts" and "beekeeping experts". How difficult is it for Western readers to understand Jin Yong's works? We interviewed several senior Jin Yong fans and researchers, writers Liu Shenlei, Ma Boyong, and literary critic Xia Lie, to discuss this issue together.

Wang Dingding The value of "interdisciplinary" writing
"Interdisciplinary" has been a buzzword since the late 20th century. Even if you don't want to be here, don't do research, and don't publish papers, you are unlikely to be strangers. For example, in the graduation thesis, without declaring the use of relevant research from other disciplines - as few as two or three, as many as seven or eight - you are probably embarrassed to call it a "thesis". But the problem is that what is common in actual writing is that it seems to synthesize several disciplines, but in fact, it is pieced together and tasted, what is the value of such an "interdisciplinary" writing? In this issue of "I Have Guests", readers are invited to ask questions of Wang Dingding, an economist who has been practicing interdisciplinary education and a professor at Peking University.
Four masterpieces Works that are not tired of reading
The four masterpieces of "Journey to the West", "Dream of the Red Chamber", "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Water Margin" are the enlightenment for many people to read "tomes" works outside the classroom, and will always lead to countless adaptations, controversies and re-creations. Therefore, it is not an exaggeration to say that they have condensed the most people's reading experience in China. Last week's week, everyone discussed these four traditional masterpieces together. Which one do you like? Which one can't be read? Who is your favorite character? What inspired you? Is there anything that you don't think is suitable for today's children? Lin Daiyu or Xue Baochao? Is the killing plot in Water Margin too bloody? These discussions are interesting and valuable.
Jiang Weak Water Read SuManshu
Every weekend, I read poetry with Teacher Jiang Weishui. Last week, I read the poem "Manjushri Monk". "Spring rain building head shakuhachi, when to return to see the Zhejiang tide?" The mangshoe was uncovered and stepped across the cherry blossom bridge. In Sumanshu's poems, under careful scrutiny, the subject is often asking himself, turning back to himself, treating himself as others, as if he were another self, looking back at himself with his third eye. This seems to be the norm in Su Manshu's pen - "Nine years of facing the wall into an empty phase, wanli returned to a sick body." ("Remembrance of Liu San, Tianmei") "The rain of the ceiling is separated by red dust, and the island is drifting away from a sick body." (One of the three songs of "The Man on the Clouds") While he is acting, he is imagining others watching his actions, and is amazed by this unique existence, curious about who he is, where he came from, and where he is going.
