Horror movies aren't popular on Halloween? The premiere of "Soho" and "Antlers" failed, and "Dune" is still the North American box office champion

Last weekend, "Dune" won $15.5 million, winning the North American box office champion. Meanwhile, two first-time horror films — Edgar Wright's "Night in the Soho District" and Gilmour del Toro's "Antlers" — have disappointingly fallen out of the top five despite being released during Halloween Week.

Dune grossed $69.4 million in North America, $227 million overseas, and $296 million worldwide. Dune's box office dominance in North America will end this week as the latest Marvel movie, The Eternals, will be released on Friday, and despite modest reviews, its domestic box office is expected to reach $70 million.

Eternity's Rotten Tomatoes freshness is only 60%

In second place was Moonlight Panic: Killing, which grossed $8.5 million, down 41.2 percent year-over-year. In the three weeks of its release, the film grossed $85.6 million in North America, only $29.5 million overseas, and $115 million worldwide, which is not bad considering that the film can also be viewed on streaming platforms.

"007: No Time to Die" ranked third, grossing $7.8 million in its fourth week of release, $133 million in North America, $472 million overseas, and nearly $606 million worldwide, making it the second Hollywood film to gross more than $600 million this year (the first being Fast and Furious 9). Even more striking, though, is the film's dismal premiere in China. China was originally the most profitable market for 007, but 13% of the country's theaters were closed due to the surge in COVID-19 cases. "No Time to Die" grossed $27.8 million at the Chinese box office, which was lower than expected.

In fourth place was last week's box office dark horse, My Hero Academia: World Hero Quest, which premiered at $6.4 million. To date, the Japanese anime film has grossed $35.8 million worldwide.

Venom 2 ranked fifth with $5.75 million, $190 million in North America and $396 million worldwide.

Soho Horror Night

The top five were followed by two horror films released last week, "Soho Horror Nights" and "Antlers," which tied for sixth place and both grossed $4.16 million. "Soho" has a Rotten Tomatoes freshness rating of 74%, which is fairly good, but it can't be compared to Edgar Wright's last work, "Extreme Car Thief".
