The Rest of a Desert Island was one of Hollywood's most unusual films of 2000. Not only is it because two-thirds of the film is performed by Tom Hanks alone, nor is it because director Robert Zemeckis does a good job of avoiding the film falling into Hollywood-style sad clichés, but it is also unique in that it was the only film in 2000 that was not based on a book, a document, or a screenwriter's clever idea, or even based on a true event.
Chatter works at FedEx, and his career determines his busy, disciplined, and time-pressed life. And Charter always arranged everything in an orderly daily schedule, and the time was under his control. All he had time to worry about was his girlfriend, Kelly.
On the eve of Christmas, Chatter returned to reunite with his girlfriend, and on Christmas Eve night, everyone ate turkey and joked and gathered together, when Chat received a task from the company, needed to fly back to the company, and after exchanging gifts with his girlfriend at the airport, Chat boarded the plane of their company to deliver the courier.
A plane crash changed all that. Everyone thought Chuck had died in the disaster, but in fact he survived and was stranded on a deserted island. Life on a desert island was problematic even by eating and drinking, and Chartreuse became the modern Robinson.

Some packages floated from the crashed plane, and I thought Chuck would unpack the packages to see if there were any items that would help him in his situation, after all, at this time, there was a shortage of food, and the coconuts that were difficult to find were difficult to open because of the lack of tools. Shoes lost in the air crash, many new wounds on the feet, no fire, no place to live, this time the package is hope. But Chuck didn't unpack the package, preferring to smash the coconut with a stone, rather add new wounds to the old wounds on his feet, rather than unpack the customer's package.
It wasn't until much later that Chuck began to unpack the package to save himself, but still kept one unopened. In the package, Chuck found what he wanted. A pair of skates, Chuck transformed into an axe, a volleyball, Chuck spent facebook on the ball and became his good friend, named Wilson, Chuck was no longer alone, he could talk to Vijay every day.
Chatter has two spiritual sustenances, one is Wilson; the other is a pocket watch given to him by his girlfriend Kelly, and in her pocket watch, there is a picture of Kelly. A photo of Wilson and his girlfriend during the long and lonely days. Day after day, year after year, only wilson and Kelly's photographs accompanied him.
Chuck struggled to survive on the island for 4 years, the fat man became a thin man, his hair and beard were like weeds, and his survival skills for fishing and making fires were also in full swing, and Chuck looked exactly like a wild man.
One night, the waves brought Chuck a sail, a sail that could be turned toward freedom.
This sail is actually a large piece of iron, but Chuck, whose survival skills are exploding, transforms it into a raft sail. When the winds changed direction in April to blow from the ocean to the mainland, Chuck left the island on a raft and sailed out into the vast sea. The danger of the sea not only caused him to lose his sails, but also to his companion Wei Jie, who had accompanied him for four years, and Chuck lay on the raft and cried bitterly, which was heart-wrenching. Chatter said to Wilson: I have to live, and I have to keep breathing anyway, even if there is no reason to hope. Just when Chuck was on the verge of extinction, life smiled at him, and the small raft bumped into the sailing freighter on the channel. Chuck was rescued.
However, back home, will everything go well?
After experiencing the agony of an air crash and losing his girlfriend four years ago, Chuck lost his girlfriend again, and the girlfriend married someone else and had a daughter. Although Chuck loves his girlfriend, and his girlfriend, who is already a wife, still loves him, they cannot be together because there are responsibilities in the world besides love.
Man is a very strange animal, as long as you survive, you will adapt to a new life, and find new meaning in life, see new hope. At the end of the film, Chuck goes to deliver the last package, which he has not unwrapped on the island, and on the way, he meets a girl, although the two talk for a few words and separate, but the meaning here is self-evident.
Chuck stood by the car and looked at the road in all directions in the wilderness, smiling. A new life begins.
