Chinese-Canadian pianists won the 18th Chopin International Piano Competition

WARSAW, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The jury of the 18th Chopin International Piano Competition announced on October 21 that Canadian Chinese pianist Liu Xiaoyu won the championship of this competition, and Slovenian and Japanese players tied for runners-up.

The final of the competition was held from the 18th to the 20th at the Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw, Poland, and Liu Xiaoyu was the last of the 12 finalists to appear. On the evening of the 20th, he played Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1. Rao Hao, a 17-year-old from Hunan, China, made his second appearance in the final, playing Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1.

Born in 1997, Liu Xiaoyu studied under the famous Vietnamese pianist Deng Tai, who won the 10th Chopin International Piano Competition in 1980.

Originally scheduled to be held in 2020, the competition was postponed for one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was held from October 2 to 20 this year, with a total of 87 players from 18 countries and regions participating.
