Narrator: Li Qing, former Chairman of the Trade Union of Bank of China Shanghai Branch.
【Li Qing】
I've been looking for this picture for 21 years.
The story begins on May 25, 1949.
623 Wanhangdu Road, which used to be the staff dormitory of the Bank of China.
This seemingly ordinary residential area, 72 years ago, once did a big thing. At that time, some members of the underground party organization hidden in the Bank of China lived in this community.
The party members and comrades of the underground party have heard the news that the south bank of the Suzhou River has been liberated, and they want to celebrate the liberation of greater Shanghai in their own way. At that time, considering that the red cloth was conspicuous and easy to expose, the white cloth was finally chosen.
They wrote.
Subsequently, the two slogans were sent to The Bund 23, where the head office of the Bank of China is located.
It was in front of these windows that two oversized slogans were hung out, and Shanghai was liberated!
In the following decades, we have been looking for relevant historical materials, until this year, in the "Nanyang" magazine founded by patriotic overseas Chinese, we founded this photo, and this oral history has finally been examined.
Two days later, on May 27, 1949, in the building at 23 Bund, the head office of the Bank of China and the Shanghai branch were completely taken over and returned to the hands of the people.
